Any recommended suppliers for a pre-built or custom built desktop machine? Particularly open to German options as a friend drives there regularly.

My lazy ass is now a very happy lazy ass.

Did you get a new one or a second hand one?

Just got a second hand one myself though I need to do some maintenance on it to chase down a creak that's doing my head in.

Ex office stock. Mostly perfect, little cosmetic wear on the rear where its rubbed against a desk.

You tend to get kits in the likes of B&Q with the worst of parts. Go to either Radionics (may be B2B only) or Farnell and get what you need.

    Reel of Cat6
    RJ45 heads
    RJ45 blocks
    Crimping tool

Cable tester isnt necessary, cheap ones are of minor use and better ones wont be warranted for irregular use.

Does anyone here have to deal with a shortage of space? I'm living in London where it comes at something of a premium. I might get a bonus from work next month though so I might be starting a new build thread soon!!

Lack of space is limiting me loads at the moment in place I'm renting!!

Desk is at one side of my double bed so have to sit at the edge of my bed to get legs under desk! It's horrible! Trying to find either some way of optimising space or else getting some back support..

If only for gaming, I had my awesome lazy pc gaming setup in bed itself before I moved in with misses. Had 40inch TV at the end of the bed and wireless keyboard on my lap. Hard book with mat on it for mouse. Surprisingly comfy.

Maybe, I'm thinking Monitor arm & Ultrawide, maybe able to swing it over the bed...oh such plans for xmas presents for myself!!

Looks like Intel are looking to up the stakes, new Pentium's are essentially an i3 (2 core, 4 thread, 3.8Ghz) for presumably €60-70. Appears to be virtually identical to i3-6100.

That's a lot of shiny for the money. Is that HT real or a bug or engineering-sample-only-jobbie though?

They know AMD has something good coming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

On the surface good news, but:

    1) That's more expensive than previously for a Pentium
    2) Hopefully this doesn't mean a price hike on i3s.

Nice to see what a competitive AMD can do to the CPU market!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

There's also a report I saw earlier which shows that AMD actually lost market share last quarter despite expecting to see a healthy surge with Polaris, which is bit of a disaster for them - they're now something like 29/71% against Nvidia.

They need Vega and Zen to be pretty radical, not just decent, at this point - and so do we as consumers as well. GTX10x0 and creeping i-series pricing is evidence enough.

Ordered a new mouse this week. I had the m65 rgb corsair, but I want something more simple to see if it can improve my aim.

Got some heating oil into the house, can give my 290 a break now, it'd been a hard few months.

AMD should use that as a marketing strategy

I have two of these, one at home, one at work, chery mx switch.
They are loud as hell, people at work hate the noise, but I couldn't switch back to normal keyboard now. The feeling is just different.
But do I type faster, or more accurate? I don't think so...

    New Low-Profile 1050ti

Should be good for anyone building a tiny gaming machine or upgrading ex-office stock.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Noticed that yesterday as well - and what I also noticed was that AMD have quietly released new FX processors - the FX-8300 and FX8310, both €30 cheaper than the FX8320. Decent budget option for those sticking with AM3+ for a little longer.

Well I got a IPS monitor for the first time and I am unimpressed. Why all the love for them? My Samsung 24 inch TN 1080p looks to have more realistic colours. Yea the colours pop more but to my eye they are oversaturated like when I had a Amoled Samsung phone.

The monitor in question is a ASUS MG279Q 144Hz 1440p freesync.

    Need to RMA my monitor.

It's cost me a few good Overwatch games now.
Hopefully the process isn't too long :(

What's people's experience of crucial SSDs? I see there's a 750GB one on sale on amazon at the moment for around £105. Had my eye on a 250gb 850 evo for my build but the crucial is only £15 more with over double the storage....

At least back in the day there were only 2 top dogs for SSD reliability: Samsung and crucial. Got 256GB one that bought ages ago and it's "solid" so far. You see what I did there? :)

Ugh, and I wasn't intending to spend any money today.

I'm fierce tempted by it too, bought one only 2 weeks ago for the GF at a smaller size - but had issues when it came to cloning it (that could be an issue with the laptop I was cloning though, as opposed to the SSD)

When I did the clean install, it ran great. Not a fan of their Crucial Storage Executive web-based software, but it seems like a perfect additional drive for games etc.

I'd probably be putting the OS on it as well as games. Still haven't pulled the trigger, two of my office mates have already grabbed one after I told them about it though. :pac:

That one's in my cart too, can't bring myself to buy as it's not something I need right now, but a higher capacity ssd for storage has been the plan since I built this PC 2 years ago
