Do the majority of people on here that have the ddpai recommend it? Have seen a few reviews on anazon thar aren't great regarding the app feature of it and the likes? Going to get a dash cam in the next week so I'm thinking whether to get one of these of just buy one in halfords in and around €100.

All the app complaints seem to relate to the android app. The iOS app seems to work perfect.

I don't think it only saves when you press the button.

My understanding from the very comprehensive review below is that it records up to 6 hours of top quality video in a loop on the built in 32GB SD Card before it starts to wipe and re-record. Along the way (if you select the settings in the app) it can record in time lapse mode when parked up i.e. one frame per second whilst you are away from the car and it will also automatically save any recordings which trigger the G Force sensor whether that is on the road as you are driving or when you are parked up if you have the park guard option set.

In addition to the above automatic settings you can manually record an 11 second clip via the button for things which wouldn't automatically be triggered e.g. some looper overtaking you at 200MPH. IIRC when you press the button it grabs the last 10 seconds of video prior to the button being pressed and adds one more second of recording thus creating an 11 second clip which won't get automatically over written.

I hope the above makes some sense. If not just read and watch the review below.

Also, this other video is helpful if you want an option to keep the camera operating 24/7 without running down your car battery - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2YZMNrbWUg

That's not right. It saves to the micro sd card as normal. The syncing to your phone over its wifi network may be a problem, but the video files will still be on the card.

should have my DDPai M6+ this evening with parcel motel .. have been talking about a dash cam for a good while and a couple of near misses in the last couple of weeks made my mind up. I do about 45,000km per year so i'm sure it will be of use.

As an aside, how long do you reckon it will be before dash cams are standard in cars, built in to the rear-view mirrors?

I have to say, I've just replaced a mini 0806 with a DDPai M6 Plus and I'm not overly impressed!

The mini 0806 had been acting up a few months ago, it would just stop recording etc... but the last few times I checked it, all the files were there as normal, still though, I can't rely on that,

I don't think the picture/video quality is as good as the 0806. I haven't done any firmware updates yet, so thats my next port of call, but so far, I'm not convinced.

Yes, it records constantly to the SD card and these can be pulled to a PC as you wish. The 11 second "button click" videos will download to your phone once you connect to the wi-fi. You GPS tracks will also download, along with a still image shot from when you pushed the button.

I'm on an S6 Edge, so I'm using the Android app also.

£119.99 - not sure what's very lightning about that given it's more expensive than buying on eBay. Did I miss the deal?

it was about £82 earlier when I clicked the link

    Serious question!
Why not just use your smartphone now instead of forking out for a dash cam?
What would be the pros and cons?

    Con;
The hassle of putting it into a holder, plugging it in, and starting/ending the app every single time. no thanks.
Constant power usage/charge for your smart device! cant be good.

I can think of some Cons...
    • Phone will eventually overheat
    • Receiving a phone call or text will shut off recording
    • Storage card will fill up very quickly
    • Phone holder on windscreen could be more of a distraction compared to the smaller dashcams.

How did you get on with your new DDPai M6+? I'm looking to possibly invest in one of these as well.

DD Pai M6 Plus arrived today.
If the camera works as good as it's packaged I'll be delighted.
It's replacing my Möbius so no rush to get it installed so will leave it till the weekend.

    Hey Kceire,

Thinking about pulling the trigger on one. Let us know how you get on over the next few days if you can!

Can some1 please recommend a good decent car camcorder at a good price & advise of any good bargains out there.

Also can you also advise on spec details I require to buy a decent unit. Thank You.

I am happy with my Nextbase 202 but if buying again I'd have something recording the rear also.

If you want to go up to or over the €200 mark, the Nextbase Dash Cam DUO is €190, if you add €35 install fee (recommended) that's €225. If Halford's do a trade-in deal again anytime soon I'll be getting this.

Are Blackvue dash cams still considered good?
Had one before and it served me well for a few years, now it's giving an error signal and I feel it's time to upgrade to a two camera system, front and rear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭Cortina_MK_IV

I was going to go to 2 camera also if I change but just watched the video for the Nextbase Duo (linked above) and the attraction is my current one is hardwired so hopefully it is just a simple swapout.

Recommend this for discreet all I need from a dashcam. Up behind the rearview beside my toll tag it's fit and forget. Been using it for a year or more without issue.
Current update is the A119 with better performance but twice the price.

I never bothered with anything like this until a dangerous fckr came stupidly close to be on the M50 earlier.

I have two cars, an Octavia and a Civic. I want two cheap Dash Cams. Recommend me a 50 quid or less cam please. One that starts automatically and I never have to touch the thing until there is in fact an incident. Bells and whistles I dont care about, a basic 720p will do me fine. Cheers

Halford's have 2 at €58 and €59. You can get cheaper online as some have reported on here depending on if you want to wait for it to be delivered from wherever.
