    That's miles off tbh.
Nate got PPV points, there is no question that LW champion did too.

McGregor decimated Aldo within 13 seconds after spending 12 months campaigning for the fight. Aldo doesn't have the chin to withstand McGregor. Not sure why people want to see it again and the PPV wouldn't sell well.
    13 seconds was incredible.
But th first punch is as likely to KO someone as the 10th punch. If it had of been a 3min knock out it wouldn't have reflected any differently.

You can't ramble on about Aldo's pedigree, adn they turn around and call Conor a paper champ. I'a complete contraction.

A dysphemism? Come on, you know thats not true. Assuming you know what it means.
He is using it as an insult and nothing else.

Firstly, let me say that Conor McGregor's achievement in winning two UFC belts and holding them simultaneously is a fantastic achievement and a testament to his own unique set of talents. His drive, attitude and self belief should be a lesson to anyone in any walk of life in what to do to be successful.

Secondly, one of the main reasons why I'm a fan of the UFC is its structure. In comparison to boxing it's extremely lean and competitive. It's the dominant authority in MMA and there are only 8 belts in the men's weight divisions. Add to that, that the champions generally have to fight the top contenders and in any given division there's a clear path to the belt for any fighter. If they keep winning their fights, they'll fight higher and higher ranked fighters until ultimately they'll get a chance to fight for the belt. It's a meritocracy and therefore it's fair.

Conor McGregor's prolonged pursuit of the lightweight belt this year has thrown the featherweight division into disarray. Whether Jose Aldo deserved an immediate rematch after his 13 second loss last year was debatable. However, after he had seen off Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, four months ago, nobody could say he didn't deserve a shot. Instead he's the holder of a worthless interim belt while the champion remains consistently active in the sport. To add to the gridlock you have Max Holloway on a 9 win streak. In any other era this man would be the number 1 contender but now he's also stuck in a holding pattern. Like a blockage in the works this inertia feeds right down through the division.

With McGregor finally winning the lightweight belt this may have led to the belief that the blockage would finally be freed up. Instead, with the news that he's now likely to take a break of at least 6 months it turns out that things are only going to get worse. Not only is the featherweight division going to remain backed up but now the lightweight division faces a similar future. Khabib Nurmagomedov, with his insane 24-0 record appears to be at his wits ends as he sees a title fight slip from his grasp yet again. Tony Ferguson, with his own 9 streak win going can feel equally aggrieved.

Whether Conor McGregor believes there's any value in defending belts is his own personal opinion. However, the UFC should not be enabling this behaviour. They only need to take a look at boxing to see where this path leads. McGregor is great for the UFC, in the immediate future, but if they sacrifice the structures of the organisation that made it great to begin with, then they're shooting themselves in the foot in the long run.

Championship belts are not medals to be kept in perpetuity. They're the life-blood of a division and need to be attainable. Anything otherwise just undermines their very value.

He was medically suspended. The immediate rematch in march was not an option. Conor had the time to fight for the LW title, RDA getting uninjured threw it into disarray.

Tony Ferguson, with his own 9 streak win going can feel equally aggrieved.
And this is the crux of the issue. We have a 2 credibly contenders at each weight. No matter who he fights next, somebody will accuse him of ducking the other.

But the current situation was the result of a few factors, and not just McGregor. Say RDA never got injured, and neither did Ferguson.
That would mean Conor potentially won the LW title in March (alongside Khabib v Tony). Rematched Aldo in July (alongside Edgar v Max). And defended the LW title around now.
In that case there'd only be Frankie or Max at FW and perhaps Alvarez at LW. A much cleaner picture.

I think Conor defending his belt will satisfy most people. The FW should be his first one. He'll have that belt for over a year and a half by the time he's ready to return.

Great to see the champ so casual and relaxed last night. I was lucky to share a few words with him and get a pic. Complete gentleman. Easily the greatest fighter to ever grace the octagon. I've been watching this sport since The Royce gracie era and not one of those lads can hold a candle to our very own Irish superhero. Please God everything goes well with the birth of his Child as I'm sure many here will know the stress of a partner going through pregnancy. I'll light a few candles for them tonight and one for his dad Tony too. Great to see artem get the win too, if he won two more fights I could see a match up with aldo. It would make for a great occasion. McGregor Diaz 3 as the main and aldo artem for the co main for the interim belt, they could sell the storyline as aldo can't get the rematch with McGregor so he decides to wipe out his whole team one by one until all that's left is the GOAT

Shane McGrath did a piece today in Mail. Saying Conor can't really be considered a great Irish sportsman. Don't know if anyone read it?
What I find most disappointing is his use of bad language. I may very well be mistaken but after the fight at ringside did I see some young kids?
He seems to be popular but why let himself down by this crassness. There is no reason for it. Nor excuse.

It's why he'll never be accepted by the 'mainstream' as an Irish sporting great and while I don't agree with it I understand it

I highly doubt it will tbh.
If he fights Aldo, they'll cry ducking Khabib.
If he fights Khabib, they'll cry for Aldo.

Which is completely unreasonable, obviously. But this isn't about reasonable it's about whinging.
The funniest part, is people are getting offended on behalf of other fighters. Saying he should be stripped of his FW title. Has Aldo said he wants him stripped? He's be a fool to tbh.

I notice he hasnt really pushed his F.A.S.T training programme since pre 205, I can see him ramping up merchandising and maybe some movie roles in the next 6 months.

It's always been the way, whoever he defeats there's always the next one......he beats those 2 then Ferguson is the next 'beast' .....then Woodley and so on there's no end

Well you will have people who will moan whatever happens, it is the way of life.

It does seem that the most reasonable thing for him to do now is defend or drop the FW belt, then decide what he is doing at LW.

If he defends the FW he can defend the LW or take a shot at WW if he really wants to take a shot to nothing and go for something that will never be achieved again, or at least not for a very, very long time.

To concentrate on the main point, the most reasonable fight next is for the FW belt, I don't think you will find too many people who will disagree with that, the LW has just been won, if he can fight 3 times after winning the FW without needing to defend it surely fighting once after the LW belt will be ok.

As Kavanagh has always said, it's good that there's questions. The day Conor beats an opponent and everyone goes "Oh... yeah I guess that settles that" is a day when people will lose interest.

He will never get universal credit he deserves imo, he gets lots of credit and has a lot of fans (millions even) but theres always an element that come out with ''buts'' after he wins, maybe when hes gone they will come around and realize they were lucky to watch mma in the McGregor era.

Its the nature of the game though. What do people expect - to just say that's it, he has no other challenges left to face....it's the way it is. There's always gonna be another guy.

It's not so much that as the way it's done.....he always 'gets destroyed' by the next man no matter what they've just witnessed

In fairness the people doubting Conor are probably also buying his ppvs so I would say Conor is happy enough to let them keep doubitng him, as long as they keep buying :pac:
