This is probably a stupid question, but is there anyway to receive the Irish channels without the need for an aerial installation, or sky sub? I.e. Through satellite like Sky but without having to pay them for the privilege??

You can get some of the Irish channels on satellite via Saorsat.

However, you'll notice you'll be missing some channels as TV3 aren't prepared to pay the requested transmission costs.

    Your call.

A set-top aerial might provide acceptable reception, depending what the signal is like at the point where you intend to use it.

Saorsat isn't just a matter of plugging something into a dish that's set up for Sky or free UK channels, as it's broadcast from a different satellite.
