If Ireland was invaded, would you volunteer?

Volunteer for what ? Die to maintain the power, wealth, and interests of the Endas, Berties and Gerrys etc. of this country ? You must be joking. Any invader stupid enough is welcome to it. After all the betrayal and political skulduggery and corruption I've witnessed in this country over the years, from now on my country is me and my family.

It would completely depend what was at stake. What would the invaders do? Let life carry on pretty much as normal for people? Or kill & maim, seize property, deny human rights etc etc.

If my family's well-being or future was at stake, then yes, I think I would fight for that.

If it was just to decide who was in power, and had relatively little impact on our lives, then probably not.

(And if they invaded TV3 and announced they were taking Xpose off the air then I would fight for them.)

If people were being attacked, yes, I would. If I wasn't best suited to fighting I'd help out in some way or other. I presume living under the attackers rule would be a lot worse than enda and co. or there'd be a threat that people wouldn't be allowed to live at all. How could anyone not fight if it came right down to it and people were in immediate danger?
Staying safe so that I could be around for family would be the priority, though.

How about this scenario, to add a bit more meat to it.

For some reason ISIS have taken to boats and are sending a fleet of 100,000 soldiers to our shores*. Their aims are to impose full Sharia law, burqas, no alcohol, the whole shebang. They will be arriving in 2 days and the army are panicing and actively looking for volunteers. Enda is leading and wants to talk it out, gerry somehow takes control of the army and is getting a few guns togther to fight them on the beaches, bertie is growing a beard. What do you do?

Once you mention the 'no alcohol' threat from ISIS in your call to arms, the lack of volunteers would sort itself out. It would be like Holy Thursday at 9:55pm, only with military grade weaponry.
