Love the clueless Irish people celebrating this without having any knowledge of how badly his proposed policies could actually affect us.

    <lots of scaremongering>

Love the hurt Irish lashing out this morning because Trump managed to get himself elected - you'd almost think they were US citizens themselves they're taking it so personally!

The reality is that like every election ever, most of what was said was designed to win people over and win votes. The reality will be that some of the more "extreme" policies (walls and such) will be rowed back into clamping down on illegal immigration (no bad thing), and other policies will be similarly adjusted to the post-election reality.

That said, I do think - and hope - that Trump does enough to change the fundamentally broken system that led to his election. People feel disenfranchised and have seen their livelihoods and families suffer as a result of being treated as pawns in the global economy, and this result is only the latest sign that they've had enough (I expect Merkel to be the next big "casualty")

And as for the Democrats (and their supporters) - FFS they put up Hilary Clinton against him. Can they really be that surprised?

Dangerous how exactly? Can someone explain what is so dangerous about Trump? No 'he's like Hitler' comments please.

Why do people think they have the God-given right to illegally live in other countries?

Are you for real? Read a little history on how a guy named Benito Mussolini or Hitler rose to power and then read a little on their respective platforms and policies. The similarities are uncanny.

You still haven't refuted my accusation that he is a fascist and a racist.

I think you'll find a hell of a lot of politicians around the world pretty much said the same. One of his few fans seemed to be Putin.

Maybe... but there's a difference between thinking it/saying it in private, and saying it as the head of a country in that country's national parliament - especially one that depends hugely on US FDI and MNCs

But then our Enda isn't the sharpest to be fair

I'd hate to be a black person in America right now. The man endorsed by and campaigned for by the KKK is in charge and racist attacks are going to soar. We saw what happened after the racists were emboldened by Brexit and they didn't have guns.

Sanders would have won that election.

An inanimate carbon rod would have won that election.

He doesn't get the keys to the White House until next year. He's only President elect until then.

    This too shall pass.

As I edited my post to add, you (as leader of the country) should have the cop on to keep your mouth shut when your country depends massively on US investment

Besides, most of the more "extreme" remarks was merely electioneering rhetoric to the masses. Tell them what they want to hear to get them to vote for you but you won't follow through on most of it. Enda/FG should have certainly recognized that one!

If you imagine America is the human body, all the years of bad lifestyle choices, bad habits (policies) rewarding bankers etc and generally providing a crappy environment for a cancer to grow, has taken it's toll. That cancer is now trump, and unfortunately though it's taken years to happen, it's now grown way out of control.

The problem is, he's of their own making, it was always the oppositions race to lose but by then it was too late. What I'm now laughing at is the polls!! If ever they were revealed as being media led agenda favouring spin, it's now

David Cameron will not be a returning to downing street for a second term.... eh wrong.

Scotland will leave the UK, emphatically shown in polls, eeehhhh wrong!

    Brexit wont happen.... eh wrong.

Trump is now miles behind...ehhhhh OK!

even RTE, 10,000 people turned up to protest Irish water... eh it was over 60,000...

Like it or not, the people have spoken, as in brexit, as in America and the irish political class should take stock, sure that's the same reason we have a split government here now. people are sick of getting the shaft..

isn't that exactly how Hitler got into power. A bafoon who was rejected from service in WW1, forced to carry medical supplies, and then kicked out of art college twice!! anythings possible I suppose.

Despite the fact I did get a little bit of satisfaction knowing that despicable Hillary will never be president, I am a little bit nervous nonetheless.

This is a man publicly endorsed by neo-Nazi groups and the KKK.
A man who doesn't believe in climate change and is willing to reverse all deals on environmental protection.
A man who has said he's not afraid to use nuclear weapons.
A man who re-iterated this very morning that the wall is still going up.
A man whose admirers include far-right bigots like Le Pen and Farage.

The novelty is wearing off (didn't take very long). I'm a bit shocked to see so many Irish people jumping over the moon at his election. We've all seen just how successful right wing populism has been in the past :/

First obvious one is he declared he is going to remove pretty much all of the regulation put in place on banks and wall street over the past 8 years, cus that can only lead to a good outcome for the little people.

Hes also gonna drop the US corp tax to a proposed 15% meaning many of all those fancy high tech jobs we currently depend on may very well disappear back across the pond.

All that deregulation means England is gonna get in a trade war with the US to try and keep them cus of brexit by doing similar deregulation so all those fancy banks we were hoping to get after brexit, yeah they arent coming.

And all of the above is pretty much supported by 100% of republican senators and congressman and they control both houses now.

All of this will just lead to a further US deficit which trump couldn't give a toss about so thats gonna be fun when it finally hits.
True enough and worrying alright. His buffoonery about Mexicans is a sideshow, that lot above could really bugger a fair swathe of this country.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

We know from bitter experience that banks tend to cut their own throat when given sufficient space and wherewithal. Fine. Let them at it. Tread carefully around them. And there is no way in hell that between the House, Senate and Fed that corporation tax will drop to 15% or anywhere within an asses roar of it. It might, might, drop to 30% or 28%, something like that, but anything much less would be a fiscal disaster worse than an actual nuclear conflict, and these people know it.

It encourages violence against minorities. Sure you can have border controls but when the most powerful man in the country calls Mexican's rapists then what is the harm of beating up a few, they were probably criminals anyway. We saw this in the wake of the brexit vote and it seems likely to repeat now.
