Tell that to the people who starved in America's breadlines in the 1930s after the 1929 Black Friday stock market crash. Many of them Irish. A stock market crash crashes an economy - or by now the interlinked world economy.

Markets are down 5% about the same as after Brexit. The Black Friday crash was a consequence of the markets expanding way beyond reality because of speculation. Thats not the case today.

They're sick of it and yet they're electing a mega rich tycoon who won't release his tax returns.

    Only in America.

I won't release my tax returns either.

What I pay in tax is my business.

Me and Donnie, only our accountant can tell us apart.

This Brexit comparison makes little sense. If the vote was anti establishment you wouldn't really expect a majority for both house and Senate to be Republican. That's like saying you're going to give two fingers to system but instead you unhook the tethers and let the beast you resent roam free with full autonomy.

Ironically the GOP won both houses because republicans were thinking that Trump wouldn't get the white house and that was their way to counter balance a Clinton administration.

But Trump thinks America is too involved in other countries wars...he wants less American involvement in others problems not more...just like the majority of Boards posters

I think you are thinking of clinton ?

Or the public has realised that eight years of gridlock is no good for anybody.

Can't believe his is happened. Hopefully he can bring peace to the Middle East. World is changing, people are fighting back against globalisation and liberal policy. I expect a wave of far right victories in Europe in elections over next few years.

    All in all I'm stunned.

For a self declared financial genius it's kinda ironic that he didn't predict that by getting elected he will probably lose half of his own net worth.

Most certainly not, he's a very volatile person, not particularly intelligent and incredible ignorant, exactly what you don't want as a leader. This is particularly dangerous for the globe. Clinton isn't much better than him, but better the devil you know for the moment

It's happened folks. You are only waking up but it has happened. A genuine unstable idiot has become president of the US.

I will be asleep as you wake. But I will wake too and I will also think of the consequences and wonder is it a dream:eek:

    It's not a dream.

    It's real.

    F**k

Well, its not the first time that happened. Come on Trumpi!

Wouldn't be wise. America has elected a war leader. He will bring war, and the draft. Head for Europe or Australia if you're heading.

First Brexit, now Trump. Another victory for the politics of hate. It's a sad, misguided world we're living in.

But aren't these results 'f*** you' results? As in 'f*** you' to the the political class? A political class that has the snout in the trough 24/7 and mostly rules and governs against us?

It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
    It's coming from the feel
    that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
    From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
    It's coming through a crack in the wall;
    on a visionary flood of alcohol;
    from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don't pretend to understand at all.
    It's coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
    heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the sorrow in the street,
    the holy places where the races meet;
    from the homicidal bitchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
    From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
    and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

    Sail on, sail on
    O mighty Ship of State!
    To the Shores of Need
    Past the Reefs of Greed
    Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.

    It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
    and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
    It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
    in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we'll be making love again.
We'll be going down so deep
    the river's going to weep,
and the mountain's going to shout Amen!
It's coming like the tidal flood
    beneath the lunar sway,
    imperial, mysterious,
    in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

    Sail on, sail on ...

I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right
    I'm just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
    that Time cannot decay,
I'm junk but I'm still holding up
    this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
