The poll this week is interesting.

I know some of you pick your players (transfers, captains, overall balance of the team, etc...) without any serious regard to their ownership popularity. e.g. if a player is owned by 50% of the game but you don't rate him, you won't get him in as a "blocker". Same goes with your captain picks.

Now. Of course, Agüero is not only a popular player in the game, he's one of the best if not THE best. So captaining him home to a promotted team doesn't seem open to debate. But 'Borough only conceded an average of 1 goal/game away. They silenced Arsenal in their last game and only cracked open once, to Everton (conceded 3).

As I said in my previous post, last year such a popular captaincy did not work out very well. People who avoided it got really stung only once (when Agüero bagged 5 vs Newcastle). For all the other cases, and without even considering the 75% failure rate, you could have gone for another decent a priori shout (e.g. a 'Pool mid this week) and do as well if not better than the obvious choice.

Just before I finish the blahblah and actually ask the question (:p), I'd say this GW is not the best example since there are not a lot of other great a priori choices (I mean Agüero could have the same super high (C) rates with a couple more decent shout for captaincy e.g. Deeney at home, Payet if WH weren't struggling that bad). So let's understand it as a general question.

So. Let's say one doesn't rate Agüero as a captain that high this GW. Would you ignore his huuuuuuge captain popularity (currently 67% in FFS poll, 92% here) and go with your preferred choice or would you give in to the masses opinion?

For me when it's a player like Aguero who has capacity to score 15+ any given week, then if he's the runaway captain pick you follow the crowd.

In weeks where there is a spread of captain picks that's the week where you can go for a differential if you fancy one. I did that with Payet earlier this season andnit worked as everyone blanked. Payet only got an assist but it was still a win.

I fancy Austin this week, and if there was a big variance in captain choices I'd be tempted. But it's 100% on Aguero.

I have not captained Kun since GW6. He got me good points 3 out of 4.
Sanchez got me only one good return from 4 with the armband whilst Aguero was injured and during the benching saga, but was a better pick than Kun.
I captained Deeney twice for 2 and 2, in GW8 when Kun failed and last week where it hurt.
I think I fall in the conservative camp and play like FHFC suggested. I think my Deeney pick against Hull is the sort of situation your referring to. He had 5% in the FFS poll I think and it was a closer poll than this week with the doubts still hanging over City.
So the poll has to be respected as it is a good indicator of the lay of the land and this is not a week to be a maverick imo.
As for my picks......3.2.3.2=10pts the last four weeks....Kun auto captain 18pts.

Yeah that's an observation I had also made 2 years ago. Whatever auto-captain between Hazard, Agûero & Sanchez was better than trying to guess the best one every single GW.

As for this GW, I feel there is more to lose in case your punt fails than to win if it succeeds. Particularly that early in the season.

If last year is anything to go by, Agüero has 75% of chances to blank this GW.

I mean when a player was the dominant captain-obvious he failed 3 out of 4 times.

Last year is EVERYTHING to go by !!!...

This is not a complete fail though. But 6 pts with the likely 1 BPs could be well beaten by the 'Pool mids. We'll see. It's crazy though. With the exception of Agüero 5er vs Newcastle last year, when a captain was so largely voted for he never returned big. Thing is I'll never have the balls to go against it :pac:.

Yeah but maximum 6 pts. Let's see what the 'Pool mids (and to a lesser extent Hazard-Costa) do.

Which pool mid though ? They may all score well or only one may
Will it be the right one ?
    Too risky !
Anyway that game like today will NOT be a rout . Watford are solid

    Coutinho, Firmino, Mané.
Just an assist and they pretty much match Agüero.

I'm not sure there's anything to conclude from this observation but I noted last year that such a captain only heavily rewarded once (Agüero vs Newcastle).

16 pts away to Pulis though it is not yet real Pulis this season and only 5-6 home to 'Borough. Pretty sure everyone would have bet the opposite? In the end, when we expect a routing it actually rarely happens.

Everton have only conceded more than 1 goal in a game once all season.

Missing Gueye is a big loss defensively, but yeah I wouldn't expect them to be hammered.

    Aguero.

But am an Everton fan, I fully expect Costa to match Aguero this week.
Everton have only conceded more than 1 goal in a game once all season.

I hate being this guy, but... Costa could have had a double hat trick.

When it comes to knowing how sh!t my team are going to do trust me :P
