What is even going on here. It's just a load of gombeens looking awkwardly at a camera, and a female presenter that seems nervous as fcuk and keeps stammering.

Tis on RTE 1 atm.

Awful stuff. May as well have been on the radio

They're even fcuking up the shots of the audience. Brutal

My very talented little brother is there receiving an award for his dedication, skill, and bloody hard work. I'm delighted for him.
The begrudgery and bang of jealousy off ye is hilarious tbh. Just know that the recipients don't give a fcuk what ye think of them

Everything was really awkward. I cringed at when she was trying to have the craic with the Waterford hurler out kicking footballs in a Kilkenny jersey. It just went very badly with awkward fake laughs and stammering. Anyway fair play to all, they are not easily won.

I was having a go at the production of it. RTE and the GAA make a lot of money from what they do.

It was a grand show, nice to see Lee Keegan get a well deserved FOTY award. Thought P Maher should have got HOTY but Gleeson was excellent as well.

I thought most of those interviewed spoke relatively well, a few were obviously a little tongue tied on camera but that is be cause they are regular people.

Give me that before EastEnders any day of the week.

Its not a meaningless ceremony. Sport is important and this is a chance to recognise these players for their effort. RTE is the state broadcaster. They shouldn't always be chasing ratings like a commercial channel.

I do agree with your criticism of the rte staff though. It was as if they didn't give much effort to preparing for the ceremony. Like they just turned up grabbed a mic and went live.

An annual one hour award ceremony to recognize the achievements of the star players for home grown sports. On the national broadcaster. Big deal. It's almost taboo to cast a positive light on the GAA for a lot of people on Boards.

Gaelic, athletics, soccer, tennis, golf, hurling, swimming and a multitude of other sports played by hundreds of thousands of irish people week in week out. Keeping them fit physically and mentally, happily passing their time doing something they really enjoy. How can you say that isn't important.

It's no more meaningless than any other awards ceremonies that RTE broadcast.

Yeah, i obviously want it completely eliminated and don't simply think that we go way overboard with the near blanket coverage of it coupled with the reverence we have for grown men and women who play games.

Blanket coverage is because people have an interest in it.If you avoid the sports pages you won't have to read about it.There is just as much if not more media coverage of celebrity bull**** but you can avoid it quite easily if you want to.
