It's not the charging bug that some people are experiencing.

Pretty sure it's the protector as it seems it's back to normal now. It was one of those strong glass protectors, when it got any light smudge it would repeatedly press that certain point. Way too sensitive than it should be.

G4 Plus is £185 at the moment on Amazon which is around €210 with the exchange rate. Seems like a good deal? Lots of Chinese phones with similar specs at the same price but haven't found anything with a decent camera which would be important to me. G4 Plus camera looks good - compared to my 2nd gen G at any rate.

That's interesting. I've had this happen too, but it's not the charging issue either. Never occurred to me that it might be the screen protector (I have one of those thick ones on it too). I'll keep an eye out for that now, thanks.

The phone seems to be ok now so I'm assuming it's the screen protectors fault.

Anyone having an issue with trying to save new numbers and contacts? My g4 will save the details but the next day they are gone?

Is the G4 plus available in Argos or is it just the G4 play that they have

Can someone help me, was going to buy this phone and I see:

    Amazon:
G4 is listed at £150. But comes to €178 at the checkout (with free delivery) Yet todays exchange rate should put it around €166.75
G4 Plus is £185. Comes to roughly €220 at their checkout, free delivery. Exchange rate SHOULD have it at €206

    Argos:
    G4 is €180
    G4 Plus is €225

So I guess Amazon is a ripoff when it comes to their exchange rates? If I change my card currency to GBP will I get a kinder (more realistic) exchange rate or what's the story here?

If you're getting it delivered to ROI then the Irish VAT rate is applied which puts up the price.
Get it sent to Parcel motel and use Revolut for the best exchange

Just out of interest, as I've seen the G4 plus on a few sites when looking for a phone. Why is it that price, when it scores pretty low on benchmark tests? What is good about it?

The one advantage the moto have is almost stock android that should get faster, and longer updates.

If its just benchmarks you want do do well in you'd just get a Chinese phone. Their hardware bang for buck is much better than the moto. Personally I want the official updates and stock android. Nexus phone is even less bang for buck but has the best updates. Well other than Apple.

I ended up with a Redmi Note 3 pro, got it on adverts here. I like a fast phone but I have heard the G4 has one of the best cameras too?

Yes, always buy in the local currency of the website so use GBP. You will of course be charged the credit card company rate so you won't get the the market's rate but you can use something like this to calculate...http://www.xe.com/creditcard-charges-calculator/ you will also probably be charged a conversion charge on top of 1.5% . But it will beat Amazon price easy enough but it wouldn't be a rip off 170ish euro I'd say. There is also a difference in VAT so the GBP price will 153.70 to Ireland on free delivery.

First thing to check is what contacts your phone is displaying!
1.You can have your contacts on your Sim card (very common pre-smart phone days but some still do it!)
    2. You can have your contacts on the device.
    3. You can have your contacts saved in your Google account.

Your first port of call is to go to a pc, open contacts.Google.com, log in using same email you use for Google play store on your phone, and input any contacts missing.

Is the g4 play up to much? (amazon uk doing it for £119.95)

I am coming from a samsumg core prime,
prob classed as a light user -
basic use plus news sites (indo, times rte) work email (outlook), whatsapp, bit of browsing and thats it
    no streaming etc.

Probably be OK. I think it's a bit pricey.

You can get the Moto g 3 for less on meteor and it's basically the same phone with a better screen. The play will probably get nougat and the g3 probably won't otherwise the g3 is better imo.

Is argos the only place where you can physically pick one up?

    Initial reaction coming from nexus?

    initial reaction coming from a Nexus 4 ...." Jesus , what is this ? A paddle ? " :D

Other than that , smooth , responsive , everything is where it should be , no bloatware .It doesn't feel as solid as my Nexus 2 but I wasn't expecting it to ...... doesn't feel flimsy either though .

Thanks - will pop in to have a look but buy elsewhere as
Currently at €229.99 (and presumable locked to tm network)
€50 cheaper at argos for unlocked version.

Tesco prob reduce it in the next "sale"

my wife dunked her three month old g4 in with the bobbing apples on halloween. phone working but screen is very very faint. Can make it out with a torch.

Can anything be done with this?

I remember its being splashproof, but is it worth getting the screen replaced at this juncture? had it in the bag of rice, but will stick it in there again tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭StereoSound

It has some sort of water repellent coating on the motherboard.

yep, the phone is working fine, but is the screen replaceable on a moto g4 or just buy another one?

They would be replaceable BUT honestly they are cheap phones so you wouldn't be too far off the price of a brand new one getting that one fixed. Buy a new one in my honest opinion.
