Bought one and tried it out..

    Absolute rubbish..
It has a powerful vacuum motor 1200w, its a nice small easy to handle unit, but the problem is that the fine ash blocks the filter quickly, and the motor heats up and cuts out.

Regular stove ash from coal/sticks, I got half way through the first clean and it stopped, I had to clean the filter which is a messy dusty job, wait for it to cool down and then continue. Overall it is far cleaner and quicker to just empty the ash pan into a refuse sack and sweep up the remaining dust.

Be returning it tomorrow, and the second unopened on I bought for my mum.

Ashmaster is the job for that sort of thing.

Hah, I have to echo the OP's sentiment on it. Mine got used twice and then fired into the shed. It really is less bother to do it manually, than use that thing and spend what seems an age cleaning filters etc. It presumably is designed for a quick vac around when you've removed the bulk of ash, though the filtration is still a disaster.

I remember seeing a different brand (Deville or something) that seemed to have a 2 tier tank or filtration system. Not sure if it's much better, though couldn't be worse.

Used mine for the first time this morning, it is now back in Aldi's. Filter clogged and the Vac overheated. Had to wait for it to cool down and then it happened again. Useless.
