Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Minecraft account compromised?

    Hey guys, been a long time since I posted in here!

    The other day I got two emails from Mojang to say my password and email for my Mojang account had been changed. I managed to get in quick enough and change the password and reset my email address however. But whoever had hacked the account had changed my name (which was reversible) and my minecraft username (which can't be changed for a month now).

    I got onto Mojang support, and explained the situation to them and asked could the please reinstate my original username - here's the reply I got:
    Unfortunately we cannot change the username back, because it is being blocked by our profanity filter. I cannot give you a time when or if it will be removed or not.

    My minecraft username is the same as on here, and I've been using it since December 2010 without any issues...

    Has anyone else had this issue? Name changes or accounts being stolen? I can only assume my account was hacked and sold on one of those dodgy sites!

    Never had this problem personally, sorry to hear it! Can they give you a different name if Nimrod is too profane for them?

    I assume in 27 days (Just checked) I can change my username myself when the cool-down ends. It's just really annoying me that my old username mightn't be allowed!

    The customer service rep I was emailing told me he's asked for it to be removed from the banned list, but there's no guarantee of when, or even if it will be...

    It also took a while to get that much from them... customer service and explaining the problem doesn't seem to be a strong point in the Mojang offices these days :(

    Looks like they're taking over old accounts. I assume you registered around March 2011 as well, right? If so it would indicate a specific batch of leaked credentials.

    December 2010 but close enough yeah! Mojang refused to even entertain the idea that it was there fault with me in emails with customer support too!

    Recent set up account here and tried to log in over the weekend, telling me incorrect credentials. Cant even log into minecraft.net
    Very strange

    Put in your in-game name in here on a date you were certain you had access to it http://tools.deprecatednether.com/

    If they changed your name then they definitely have access to your account, get on to Mojang support and they'll get it back in your control.

    Sounds like they expanded their profanity filter, and you got caught in the net. Check some of the definitions at http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nimrod for why it might have been added to their list. It's unfortunate, but I doubt it'll be reversed. :(

    Minecraft.net account was migrated to a mojang account without my permission. Old login no longer works. Looks like i was hacked. Got onto mojang,hopefully they get it sorted

    Long time since I checked back here, but I did manage to get my name back EVENTUALLY! Think I either managed to get someone who actually cared, or else I just bugged them enough!
