In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is a magic xylophone, or something?

Ha ha, boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

It shows how far gone the writer's of the Simpson's are that they didn't even recognise their own joke being thrown back at them - https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/4i58zi/simpsons_director_mark_kirkland_doesnt_recognize/

Dunno if it is in the spirit of the thread but.....the episode where lisa is babysitting bart, and she brings bart unconcious in a wheelbarrow to dr nics clinic. She asks smithers can she cut the line in front of him and he responds "eh no, i'd rather get this seen to now".

Eh OK, what is he supposed to be refering to here? Something about being gay? Is it signifcant that he is standing up?

Dildo up his butt maybe - it's actually a fairly frequent phenomenon in New York hospitals. Genuinely!

Not a cock up as such, more a sign of the time it was made, but I had to smirk when watching the episode where Homer joins Lollapalooza recently.

Homer: “The us Festival! Shesh! It was sponsored by that guy from Apple Computers!”
    Cashier: “What computers?!”

I imagine that one makes no sense to a huge amount of youngins now.

The Continental Soccer Association is coming to Springfield! It's all here—fast-kickin’, low scorin’. And ties? You bet!

You’ll see all your favorite soccer stars. Like Ariaga! Ariaga II! Bariaga! Aruglia! And Pizzoza!

The Simpsons cocked up when they moved from celebrities voicing characters (like Jackson and Hoffman), or having them do brief but brilliantly effective cameos (think Sting,George Harrison, Liz Taylor), to simply having celebrity plot driven episodes (think the one with Homer as Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's assistant from season 10 onwards).

    Ricky Gervais.

    That is all.

I love Homers vacant stare, reminds me of myself in work.

It's the sort of detail/possible mistake that you don't get in the new CG animation. I remember an interesting piece from a former simpsons animator who critised the transition, saying that the rigidity of the computer models didn't allow for much expression. He pointed out an old episode with Homer's heart attack, as something that would be impossible today.

I bought all the DVDs up to season 10 and used listen to the commentary. Funnily enough you often hear Groening complain about character being "off-model" in those earlier years. I guess he's happy now.

It was gone to the dogs long before he appeared in it.
