Ebay - Global Shipping Program

Sorry to necro this thread, but I ordered something from a UK seller on the 27th of September. He shipped it to the GSP on the 28th and the GSP feckers have had it since the 30th and have shown no sign of sending it on. The tracking provided hasn't been updated since the 30th and I paid €20 for "international signed for tracking" so I'm pretty annoyed about that. I know, from years of buying from ebay UK sellers, that shipping shouldn't take longer than a week (especially when paying for tracking). This is my second experience with a seller using the GSP and the first one wasn't positive either. The first one was an American seller at Christmas time so I blamed the time and distance for the long wait back then - not so sure about it now. That one arrived a month late and repackaged by Pitney Bowes for some reason (edit to add: the repackaging caused two individual accessories to get lost from the rest of the order -the seller was adamant they placed them in the package too).

I can see why it sounds good to sellers: its touted as making the shipping process easier and safer (i.e. fills in the import forms for them), when, in reality, it just makes shipping twice as expensive and takes 3 times longer to post the package. The UK seller I ordered from only recently started using the GSP, but, given this negative experience, said he'd re-consider using it in future given the amount of trouble it causes: I think everyone who has had negative experiences with GSP should be honest about it with the sellers as I don't think they realise the massive disadvantages it causes for customers. Sellers lose out in the long run. I know I'm going to avoid any seller using GSP from now on: it's more trouble than its worth.

We have something new on Ebay.

Shops who state the item is in the UK, but then you have to wait 10-14 working days for the item to arrive, and when you check their shop they are based in China. Once the package arrives you can see it comes from all but the UK they simply get shipped from China.

They also have multiple shops but its actually one big reseller behind it all the same shop. Apparently it has something to do with dodging VAT and what not.

Just so you know be careful with this, check the shop location in shop details before you buy something.

I have learned to become very patient with all this GSP nonsense. The more we go forward in the future the worse it all gets with receiving packages. The days of receiving packages in 2/3 working days seem long gone :( 4/5 working days seems to be the norm now, if you are REALLY lucky.

At this point about 90 percent of UK sellers I buy from are using the GSP, so I've switched to Parcel Wizard. This usually costs about half the price and gets here in a week or less.

been waiting for ten days now for an item i bought on october 16th,tracking is just a waste of time, all it's telling me is "multiple carriers " don't know if it's still in england or if it's here in ireland and with the bank holiday coming it could be a few days yet before it lands. will never buy anything again from ebay if it involves this sh1te delivery system.

Sellers quoting false location is not new, but it does seem to be a lot more common now. I've bought a few small items from "UK" sellers in the last couple of months, and all were posted from China. Two of the accounts, different eBay names, are using the same Paypal identity, I've just noticed, and a third one I'm pretty sure is the same too, but uses a different Paypal account. I've reported all items to eBay for false location, and they've done exactly nothing about it. All are still active and have the location as UK.

As for GSP, it's handy if you're buying from America, but for UK to Ireland, it's a complete con. Adds 5 days to shipping, and usually ends up costing about twice what it would if sent directly.

I stopped buying stuff on ebay because of this Pitney Bowes ""global shipping program"".. SCAM

just another post to warn users to avoid any sellers fulfilling via eBay Global Shipping, they're laughably incompetent. the tracking number is useless and i'd no idea what courier had my laptop in Ireland. then suddenly i get a message that they attempted delivery and the item was returned! there's no way they actually attempted delivery, i was at home all day.

the seller was great and reshipped a laptop but it cost him more money. if i ever use again, i'll only ship to parcelmotel in the North

ebay is such a joke of a company, should have died years ago but unforunately the network effect keeps them alive.

Been buying stuff on Ebay from the UK using the GSP for yonks and never had a problem.

It is taking longer now (about 2 weeks) to get stuff, but I presume that is due to demand with buying in £ being so good at the moment.

    This stealing must stop.
If you see an item in the us or uk on ebay, using the programme, send a message to the seller, warning him.
NOTE THIS, there is no duty on antique jewellery coming into Ireland from the us,check other items yourselves ,yet GSP have charged me a bogus duty ,which they pocketed themselves.I have reported the matter to the Customs and Excise. When challenged ,they hid their theft by deception, and by lies.
It is shame on Ebay to allow this to continue.
If you can ,also boycott any item involved on ebay ,otherwise I suspect the sellers will not realise that their good names are being besmirched .

Not true. If it has a value then it is liable for import duty and/or VAT. Does not matter if it is new or second hand.

    See here

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055862554

And if they pocketed it themselves, you would be getting a second tax bill..

Iv been charged by Pitney Bowes for the second time in the past two weeks buying items from the UK, total scam, the tracking number never works, I got fake e mails saying my item had reached the global shipping program after I had already received it, now the second item it's been 4 working days and it hasn't even left the UK yet, all it is is standard postage Royal mail to An Post, they claim its for import custom charges when there are none, Pitney Bowes alongside Ebay is committing fraud on a massive scale and hoping people don't notice, they took money directly from my account without my consent how is that not flat out theft? I opened an unauthorized transaction dispute on paypal and got a reply its for global shipping blah blah blah there is no option to add details / info to the dispute, I had to e mail pay pal separately stating my case and demanding a full refund, even if it is just for goods from the U.S there not allowed to charge import tax duty on items under $200 but yet they do, is there no longer any watch dog tv show to put this under the spot light?

    Can you explain this?

Probably confusing duty and VAT. Duty is not charged on items under €200 (or maybe €250), but VAT applies at €25.

eBay global shipping is not a scam, nor are they doing anything illegal. The charge will be listed as a separate transaction in Paypal, but the amount is as in your eBay listing. UK sellers are free to chose the global shipping program if they so chose. It adds a layer of security for sellers, so it makes it attractive for them to use it.

It's just not a great service a lot of the time from a buyers perspective as it adds extra delays and costs more than shipping direct.

Duty is applicable over €150 value, not including Insurance or freight. No VAT charged on value less than €22 including freight and insurance.

This crowd has taken 11 euro from my PayPal as a separate transaction. I had already paid 25 euro shipping what's the 11 euro about? It's an item coming from the UK which apparently is going to take 16 days to deliver

The GSP should be a buyer choice.

As it stands, it a load of old pony that really only serves to hold up the delivery.

I'd wager that 90% (if not more) buyers would rather it was gone.

Two items from ebay two different UK sellers both BIN's bought the same day and posted the same day. One with Royal Mail arrived 2 days later and the one with GPS took nearly 2 weeks.

My own stupid fault as I put a low ball offer in to the seller using GPS before I twigged that he was using GPS if I had I wouldn't have bothered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,702 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

    /\

This is why people think this GSP is a scam. It doesn't do anything but relieve people of their money, interrupt delivery time, interfere with the package and there's no opt out feature for the buyer.

It's entirely money oriented, with little in the way of "service" being provided for the money issued.

So I bought two separate items on Ebay, both from England, both the same size (cables for my car). One was shipped with the GSP costing about €11, and the other with Royal Mail €3. Both purchased on Sunday evening.

It's Thursday now and the Royal Mail one has arrived, but the GSP one is still in England. It took them two days to pick it up from the seller, and another 2 days sitting at their facility.

Think I'll be avoiding the GSP sellers/items from now on.

I also use An Post's AddressPal service from time to time. It also only takes 2-4 days but you have to collect it at the post office..

Two items bought and posted the same day (Monday). One from the US and one from the UK.

The US one arrived 7 days later (Mon) and the UK one the next day. Both GSP.

Odd that it took the UK one a day longer to arrive considering it had to come a quarter of the distance.

From what I gather it seems that some Ebay sellers initially signed up for the GSP program because it's cheaper to ship larger items, and to make customs a bit easier, but once they're signed up for it Ebay won't allow them to use any other courier service! Seems the seller has to post the item to their center first, so it's going to take a few days before the GSP even get their hands on it.

It's looking like my UK package from the UK is also going to take 8 days. I just got the AnPost tracking info for it there whileago, so it seems they're not even using proper couriers either. What a scam like..

I'd definitely recommend setting up an AddressPal account. The last package I got using it only took ~3 days to arrive from the UK.

I've had a few items recently come through GSP but they were supposed to be UK based yet I got emails informing me of clearing customs where if they were in UK there would be no customs.

Maybe they're gearing up for Brexit, or else they just send everything through the same process, regardless of where it's being sent to.

Even UK to Ireland items are checked. Guns, drugs etc.. Customs might mean a dog having a sniff.

All mail is checked but thankfully we have not got to the DDR steaming open of letters yet.

yeah a definite scam on the part of EBAY which might explain why their sales have fallen dramatically . Bought a few pieces years ago from the UK and cost only about £4 to get sent over a couple of days later. In the last couple of years to get the same pieces sent over is now costing about £11 to get here about a week or more later with a big pittney bowes sticker on it. ! they never got lost before and they certainly dont arraive any better only a week or more later. Hard to know what were paying for ? and theres no options given to buyer or seller.

I'm a fan of this for stuff coming from the US but that's very little. In the last 10 years I might have ordered 2 items from the US.
Most of what I buy comes from the UK and for those items it's disastrous. They are generally low value items that don't weigh a huge amount but the postage costs to get them have no shot up dramatically.

Definitely a pain in the backside.
