Switching operators and downtime ?

Just a quick question about changing broadband providers

I’m switching from Vodfone to Sky for phone and broadband.

Sky engineer is due out Thursday (20th) to install the stuff, but the e-mail from Sky says that it will “go live” around the 24th.

Is there going to be an interruption in my service for that period of time between the install and “go live” or do the operators work it out between themselves when one service stops an the other takes over ?

Up to 24Mb or up to 100Mb?

Its a bit hard to tell.

The email from Sky says its "Sky Broadband" but a call to them has confirmed its "Sky Fibre"

Even though our cabinet has now been updated to fibre but all indications are we will only be getting 12mb to 15mb

If you vodafone line isn't VOIP:

    Sky deliver equipment
    Wait
    Vodafone internet light goes red
    Swap modem
    Back online

If your vodafone line IS VOIP:

There may be, its a new scenario. Rather than a transfer of services it may involve a cancellation and new order to get the POTS going again.

    Thanks
Sounds straight forward, it's not a VOIP line

    Sounds straight forward

    Sky installs are never straightforward!

    Elaborate

    Elaborate

Because they cannot take orders for new lines and their efibre install system is a mess that involves different contractors doing the install (KN do the cabinet and exchange work, Sierra do the inhouse work) and nobody caring to test the line is of sufficient standard for it, just connect it up hope it works.

    Well that's interesting.

As I said earlier its a little ambiguous from Sky on whether its fibre or not.

And the Vodafone door to door sales person is adamant that Sky could not offer fibre, not that I would believe any of these door to door folks.

Good man! It's amazing the BS that they spout which we end up seeing people on here then saying "The Door to Door salesman said I could get a gagillion megawhotsits per microsecond and have a holodeck with pretty trees and people and world peace, because my neighbour has it. But now it takes 2 minutes to load up the google search page and I don't actually have a neighbour. What could possibly be wrong?"  :D

    Just an update

The switch over went really smoothly

Sky hub was installed, after a few days "Internet" LED on Vodafone router went red.

Plugged in the Sky Hub to phone point and up and running with 15mb consistent DL, as I had been expecting.
