Should party wall be insulated in a semi-detached house?

Family member is planning to have internal insulation fitted in a semi-detached house. They are thinking of not insulating the party wall... should it be insulated? Is it necessary if they want to apply for the grant? They may not go for the grant as their finances may force them to do the insulation in several stages or they may go for an insulation thickness that is less thick than the 5/6" insulation boards required for the grant so save loosing space.

If it were me I'd consider doing it to reduce sound transfer if nothing else.

The assumption is that both houses are heated to about the same temperature, so heat loss to the other house is insignificant.

There is no Building Regulation requirement to insulate the party wall.
It may be wise to put a smaller board on it if space allows to help with heat retention and noise transfer but if next doors joists are built into the party wall, noise will not be reduced anyhow.
