RTE, why would anyone pay for this?

So today as I've channel surfed from the couch they've been showing Only Fools and Horses, repeats of BBC nature documentaries, and now Father Ted, which seems to be on every night on repeats every night for the past 20 years.
Why does anyone bother paying TV licence given the crap they put on for us?
Chat shows where RTE "stars" interview each other, or some GAA guy many of us never heard of. I really hope they go t*ts up with all the quality TV availability online now, and the jobs for the boys/girls club is gone forever.

Yeah rte is really in the shìt.

The schedule is shocking. Their chat shows are car crash viewing with talentless and bland Z listers interviewing eachother. Endemic inbreeding. Reruns of syndicated shows. They're selling off parts of Montrose to stay afloat.

Only saving grace is the likes of Prime Time and a good chunk of their radio programming is good.

RTE provides a decent service considering the licence paying population, the only problem I have with them is the ridiculous pay some of the "stars" get.

They're not restricted to the licence fee. They have constant ads.

Those licence fee ads try to portray anyone who doesn't pay it as a lowlife criminal.Pathetic.

It sets the tone for rte's relationship with the public.

It's just a place where a very small few, have guaranteed jobs for their sons and daughters..
Kind of a D4 social club, where the drinks are free,, But we pay in €4 every week to keep the bar open...

I quite like RTE's content tbh but their website is a bloody joke.

Anytime I have tried to watch Live it's been a disaster.

The Montrose holiday camp should be sold off completely and all the inmates moved to an industrial estate somewhere off the M50

Just wait until the legal eagles and insufferable Ned Flanders who view license evaders as 'tax dodgers' to come along. Such creatures to behold really.

And wasting airtime and money buying (I presume they pay) Eastenders and other shite people can get for free from satellite. That needs to stop.

RTE, the BCI and the government should be ashamed. RTE is a disaster regards it's budget, the BCI should be fairly dishing out this fee. Stations on FM devating from there licence conditions, total over regulation by the BCI who should have no place as to force content on stations. Whole sector needs a massive over haul from RTE, the licence, the BCI and COMREG. All dysfunctional.

The only thing good about RTE is news and sport. Which is why Reeling in the Years, a compilation of news and sport is the best program they've done

I hope they never stop repeating Reeling in the Years. I love stumbling across it when there's nothing else on.

But was Reeling in the years not a BBC rip off of sorts?

The problem with RTE is that its a closed union. It uses the same people from private radio stations and the other crusties from the 1970s. I think they are afraid to put on someone who might challenge the status quo. RTE only wants a safe dry fart who they know wont say anything controversial. We have to be the funniest nation in Europe, yet there is no decent comedy on RTE. For fear of being biased, there cant be anything on RTE with the an opposing side.

I lost whatever respect I had for RTE when they told Una Mullaly that she couldnt go on air to discuss an Irish LGBT history book without an opposing side. They hadnt even called the marriage ref and RTE was already self-censoring. What ****ing **** show is RTE that they cant even allow a history book to be discussed without an opposing side? You wouldnt hear any other country where a TV station was bringing in another person for balance to oppose a factual book(well maybe some nutjobs in a glorious place like North Carolina).

They are an absolute disaster of a network. I'll give them one thing though: I got to see a few seasons of Sons Of Anarchy on RTE2 quite a while before it popped up anywhere else. That, and Nationwide has some decent segments every now and again.

The late late show is an absolute farce.tubridy and 99% of the guests are cringe worthy

While Reeling In The Years is beautifully put together, the format is that of a BBC series called The Rock n Roll Years. It was aired in the 90s and I think before then too.

Oh speed the day, I'd pay the bloody license to see that happen

How could I forget. I saw an ad the other day for that sanctimonious prick Gay Byrne who we all thought retired years ago, in a show where he talks about God (only in Ireland) with famous people. Would he ever f*ck off? He's probably on an obscene pension from RTE as is without picking up this easy earner.
