She's joined Stan. I was always amazed at how well spoken Jean Alexander spoke in comparison to her character on C.S. Hilda a loathsome but endearing character at the same time.
    RIP Dame Jean Alexander.

    RIP.

Mortality is all around. Really coming home to me this year with so many of the greats of my youth passing.

I was thinking, just this evening ~ as I so often have, down the years; That classic moment when Hilda came back from a holiday. Stan and Eddie had been left to their own devices.

Nose wrinkled in disgust, she says, " You haven't even washed out this frying pan! "

Stan, as ever, the bumbling, child like figure, blurts; " But ..... I didn't think ye were mean't to wash frying pans ....? "

Fixing him with her armour piercing beady eye. Hilda utters that perfectly pronounced statement, which has had me in tears for f**king decades now ..........

    " People do, Stanley ..... " :D

    Absolute f**king Legend!

Great actress, great character and a brilliant onscreen chemistry between herself, Stan and Eddie Yeats.

The scene where she comes home after Stan dying and opens his glass case is heartbreaking, you knew at the end that she had loved him all along.

She was the personification of the kitchen sink tv soap.

    And funny too (& that's from a non-soap fan)

When Stan asked Hilda what Lipstick tasted of he got the classic reply "Woman Stan, Woman"
