    Mon 5.25 miles easy
Tues . Out at lunch in a downpour. Like november . ran a 20 min tempo on grass with another lad who put 200m into me, average around 3.48 ks. Cannot believe how far back i was despite ticking along ok, he is in v good nick normally would be close on the tempos though. Working hard but thats all that was there. 6 miles all in soaked.Back in the day the tempo target was 5.35 miling not 6mins, really poor, even given grass run. Think i am getting reasonable training done but obviously not going well. maybe more of these tempos needed.
Out later on coaching and just jogged 1k or so, what a difference lovely evening.

    Where does it go time.
Wed cant remember ? Am 30 mins , PM 6 miles easy or so.
Thurs 4 sets of 3 min on, 1 off, 1 hard, 90 sec, and it was tough. Done with my buddy who is just faster than me despite my best efforts. 6 miles all in
    Fri . Did a 2 mile tempo in 5 mile run, 6mins 5.40 paces. Pm 20 mins
Sat . Am 4 miles easy. very tired . Pm , 10k progression, first k 5.13 last 3.53. All on a grass loop of about a km, with a drag of a hill on one side. Hard to keep upping the pace, very enjoyable to get it done. Had to sit down and recover after for a while. 7 miles incl c/down
Sun . 20k easy am. thankfully the usual suspects had done the half yesterday so werent in the mood for pickup. Pm 15 mins sore .

    Mon 5 miles easy
Tues 6 miles incl 5*4 min reps of 75 sec. All on grass. This was a killer of a session, ran with another lad who is out of reach , putting 100-150m + into me each time . I dont have the wheels or pace despite busting a gut, doing way more miles, and all these sessions, to get close, very annoying sometimes . I guess you reach your max /engine has its limits? . Pm ,coaching a group, 2km walking/jogging

Not even ..! Another lad who has a flat 33 ten k and although not doing a lot of miles or racing much now he has severe pace over reps . Never can catch him in training although over ten k I would be close ..
Will see about a local ten k soon race will be no harm I think

Thurs agai caught working and meetings till 10pm. Got 5 miles in mid pm, with a two mile tempo. again ran with my running bud who smoked me . 11.20 for him, 11.50+ for me. hard to believe I am so far back, despite all effort. Getting nowhere at this stage despite some reasonable training.

    Fri 5.5 miles with strides
Sat 5k steady 6.40s. Supposed to race but got asked for a lift to the Letterkenny meet by one of the club young lads, so took the spin up . Good event, although wind spoiled the times. Was a sub 4 mile though great to see.
Sun, late back and two late nights meant the tank fairly empty . Did an hour am and 30 mins pm easy
Not a great week but some quality at least

Thurs ridiculous, 1k w/up 2 miles tempo , 1k warmdown. ran with other lad who was under orders from the wife , 30 min window to run . Ran a bit quicker than last week . he was 11.02? No watch but I reckon 11.30 low. 2 miles later on . Not sure if this is enough speedwork, dont think ill ever make a track or 3/5k runner no matter how hard i try , even in the vets.

Ended up Sunday with 4 miles am and got 5 in late evening after a long day in work. The best laid plans of mice and men. have to try and get back on track, seem to have no focus and will have to find a race

Mon 15 mins early and 5 miles evening with a bit of pickup at end , done on a 600m circuit with an up and down grass section

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Tues 5.5 miles ,steady for 4 miles of it, sub 7 pace on grass and trails , felt like a lot of work and not fit

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Thurs 2 miles am in perfect conditions sunny, 1 hour pm 7.5miles in lashing rain, the joys of Galway summer. Met a lad for second run, good to meet him, very fatigued from work hrs and insomnia last few weeks only getting 4/5 hrs broken sleep which i find it hard to function off running wise.

Fri ? Cant remember . 30 mins or so i think
Sat 3 runs , cant get going 4km, 5km, 4km, got going but lost interest, body is fcuked and mind not willing .burnout? Lots of hours on work and as much on athletics/event organisation, not getting food properly or sleep .mechanics are worse than ever . not sure what to do. July /early aug are a disaster with average 80 hrs a week for 5/6 weeks on the above two things. Probably took on too much and hard to get out of it now, training i find hard to function well .
Sun 10 miles am easy , fell apart last mile tiredness and unfit.

Looking at your training over the last few weeks and months and two things became apparent.

    1) working hard on your sessions, no harm but with the workload the way it has been probably under recovering from the training your doing

    2) Mileage obsession. Seem to be in a habit of chasing the numbers a bit.

I think while work is as crazy as it is probably best to drop sessions and just get in miles and a few strides and you will probably come out of it in better shape as if you keep trying to juggle it you will bury yourself to a point where when you are able to get back to good training you won't physically be able to.

    Just my 2c

    Wed 10k???
Thurs 6k on track 22.30 tough going
    Fri ??
Sat 8*3 mins. Met two fast lads with little warm up . Was getting 800m in this approx . Pm 25 mins
Sun 20.5 k, quick start and slowed a bit. having real trouble in upper leg/glutes strained seems to be tieing up and v painful after awhile running and at start seized up
Good week but am i in trouble now injury wise

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Mon 10.5km, not bad pace early on met someone slower then
    Tues 30 min
Wed away with work 30 min when back in evening late but serious pain in left glute/leg meant a stop and pulled the pin after half hour too sore. Seems bad strain as if gone lame in the leg , wonder what it is?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Thurs 35-40 mins no watch , very painful again at end .bad strain it has to be how could that happen.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Long time off this, way too much on with the big race and work. And landed with a hammer of a tooth problem in agony for last couple of weeks . August was poor averaging maybe 10k a day very few sessions , some weeks in Aug hitting 80-90 hours on the work clock and organising race similar hours and more in last 2 weeks lead up .
Last 3 weeks ok , this week not. 56/63/58 miles with 3 sessions or so a week one on the track short and sharp one long on trails and one middling fartlek or short trails workout, not much long stuff. This week in real bother so hopefully dentist or doc will sort me out, plan to race saturday so it depends on how i end up after a couple of needles/knives ...

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

What day was last post? Had to get a couple of teeth pulled Fri incl wisdom tooth dont mind dentist but the aftermath I was fairly fcuked Friday pm unable to eat or speak, etc.
Anyway ended up doing 3k race Sat cross country and ran ok 10.47 3rd, but weak field. Was tempted to run longer race as well but was pretty shook after that and wobbly so left it.
Sunday ten miles at a crawl pm , again weak enough midway thru light headed.

last week again not much . 40+ miles. 20 min tempo Wed and 3k grass temp Friday otherwise barely got 10k a day in, Weekend spent 16 hours + on cross country course set up/take down and organising county races, walked 10 miles sunday on the course , running just ran out of time and energy with this, the joys of officialdom....

Very similar week last week , 70km , 3 decent sessions , 3*6 mins, 5 miles at 4min kms on grass , and a 2 mile tempo plus 4*2.5 mins after which I was not well very light headed . And no long run, all weekend on XC duty, did 15 miles Sunday but 9 of those were walking and setting up on course, 6 mile after but i was wrecked .Have to try and get a longish run in but am on about 20-25 hrs of athletics other stuff a week between meetings, coaching and organising x y and z events so it cuts up the time on top of the work. Anyway should get some more time free in Nov after the county/provincials/primary schools XC etc are done
