Mon . 5 miles not great
Tues . organising a race so time short . short track session 3* 3 laps, about 4.20 low pace nothing great, 10k all in
Need an easier week 2 months of near 70 miles and really wrecked as off a big XC block also.

I guess I run XC all winter 6/7 big races Nat ten k and then lose a bit of motivation/just get fatigued or have done last couple of years. Find it hard to get going for local races bit of deja vu. A good solid ten k should be the plan I think, something like Dunshauglin or one closer at end June . 36.40 in April would hope to knock 90-120 seconds off that.

    Now where was I
Thurs 1 hr run with 5 miles around 6.20 on grass with a buddy. Wind made it really tough
Fri 9 miles am , Pm 5 miles with 3k or so hardish , felt ok
Sat intervals , 4 hard 1 off 1 hard 1 off *4 + a bonus 1. Ran into it with 1k warm up not good. faster lad there made it very hard work indeed. 4 k warm down. Pm 25 mins . Not as fit as I thought ...
Sun Am close to 15 miles reasonable pace 7.15-20 all road setady . Pm 2 miles grass. Felt completely shattered for the day
Mon , out Sun night for a bit, no beer as had to be up early but still lateish one. Woke up sick and still bad, throat like sand and general shakyness. Cant manage the late nights and training. A couple runs of 3k each as couldnt continue any longer than 15 mins , walked at end .

Tues? down to do 5k but think it may be a bad idea given how fcuked i am.probably overcooked it with sessions and lack of recovery.

5 mile Tues not right at all, struggling along. Went out to 5k on chaffeur duty and to watch, some very fast times and looked like a great evening for running. 5k is One distance I never had much gra for never had the wheels for it, but might give next week a crack at Loughrea, aiming at 18 mins, a far cry from 16.40 best..
A few thoughts, plenty of talented runners there , would be great to get them to move onto the next level and run competitively at national/regional/county championships eg track/cross country/road. Age profile is probably against it a bit. Its a funny sport in that there are so few running between say 20-35 , think the job of Athletics ireland and clubs should be to fill this gap and retain the juveniles and recruit from other sports and promote it as well as other sports/gyms etc do.

Wed 1 hr am and 1 hr pm, a mile more in the pm...legs shot though
Thurs couldnt sleep woke up with a throat like a man who smoked 200 Major and head spinning, never get sick but fairly groggy.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Thurs lunch did a 5k tempo with another faster lad - warm and great to get out but was feeling shook from throat and half a flu. Did the college 5k marked loop on trails. Struggling all way 18.40 to finish, buddy had 18.14, nothing great but the surface and cornering makes it like an xc type run, so the effort was all there. 1 hr up
Fri AM 65 mins, easy, but a bad cough coming on. Worsened all day and whatever it is is not clearing.

Sun 30 mins early easy, a little better but sweating like hell running 9 min miles . def got a bad dose of it. All day on juvenile track championships duty, good fun but tiring day, 100+ races on !
Not sure how to shake this might need antiobios i reckon

Pm 3k time trial on track, 10.45 , utter trash, training partner ran 10.12 . we did this a while back both 10.30 so just shows you the decline for me, but this flu or whatever it is i reckon has knocked it out of me. other lad has definitely improved and the track doesnt lie. Very warm 20-21 so good effort

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Tues Short and sharp session on grass , very warm but good fast conditions underfoot, 2 mile warm up , 3*1km off min + 1 *600m , about 3.30 on the kms or a bit quicker and 1.56 on the 600, chasing a quicker lad who was low 3.20s. 6 miles all in or so

Wed 8 miles am and 4 miles pm with a few strides. Not sure is this all too slow

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Fri , 6 miles am, and a three k on the track after lunch 5 mile all up. Boiling hot. 10.45 very poor , legs not willing and I guess heat, A good effort but these times are slow. Running a minute quicker a couple of years ago jesus whats gone wrong.
Sat . Progression run am or an attempted one. Dont trust new garmin seems to read funny ,short k at start i reckon was clicking at 800m and may have compensated later?! Either way this was hard , started at sub 7 pace and apparently slowed down but felt like i was running faster. Very hot running in college grounds like a sauna with the trees etc holding heat in. Ran down the trails for las three k and got moving , last two miles about 6.25 pace , good effort anyway. PM 5k
Sunday am . Longish run 20k. Easy start and moving at around 7.15 pace at half way and last 10k picked up pace, with last 5 at about 4.05-10 average with another lad who was pushing it on

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Mon am . bank holiday i think? Very tired , 40 min run at zero pace. Pm 20 mins a bit faster. three days hardish running took it out of me.
Tues. Time short, 4 miles, progression from 5mk s to 4.25ks each one quicker, on grass/trails /not hard but nice to move a bit

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Wed 8 miles am and 6 pm, easy 8 min mile pace early, running 715 or so pm, with last couple of k well sub 7. all on grass/trails
Thurs 10k, legs tired from Wed.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Fri Am short jog, Pm lunch short sharp session , 2*800 , 1*mile. As usual ridiculous. 2.55/2.50+ on the 800s and 5.33 on the mile. makes no sense am such a slow starter. 5miles

Sat am progression, again humid and a difficult start to this , body very tired stopped 3k in for a mo. Then the next 5k worked well, 4.20 down to 3.53 each faster. 6miles all in . 30mins pm 7.20 pace
Sunday 21 km at 7.25 pace average , slow start and 7/7.05 from 10-18k . Pm 15 mins

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Mon 4.25 miles nothing to report
Tues lunch, session of 8*2 mins on grass very tough with a faster lad . good speedwork . we had pretty much 5k done in 16 mins of running hard. buddy was maybe 10 metres ahead each rep.6 miles done. 2k pm

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭youngrun

Thurs hard session 4*5 mins off 90 on grass but fairly hard underfoot, with a faster lad, who really upped the pace last two reps. He was averaging 5.30, I was a bit off that 5.33-35 maybe . Very tough. 7 miles all up
    Fri 4 miles easy
Sat am Progression. Again garmin clocking all wrong. showing 5 min ks plus despite me busting a gut. So did 40 mins steady to progression plus jog and lucky enough had the college circuit which has a marked 5k to work off. so used that plus the watch on garmin, Average 4.05 pace for the 40 mins.7 miles or so all up. Pm 30 mins boring.
Sun am. Late late Sat night at a party but got away before it got bright!. managed to get out for the sunday 9am run but tired is not the word. lashing rain. Felt like I was running for days it seemed never ending! 90 mins, nearly 20k so 7.25 pace . Very happy to finish it.
    Pm 25 mins
