Hi, mods please feel free to move if there is a better forum

From you're own personal experience, what are some good recommended brands for men's shoe's these days ?

I'm talking about standard semi-formal / semi-casual shoes for work / office / general use.

I'm looking for comfort and durability. I don't need designer brands or high fashion, but at the same time they should look reasonably ok.

Also can anyone recommend good online men's shoe shops, again from personal experience ?

    Thanks all.

I can only speak for the high street as I'm somewhat reluctant to buy anything I can't walk around in for a bit first.

I do love boots and it's hard to go wrong with Clarks. If I'm looking for something durable and reasonably sensible I'll always drop in to see what they have. Bought a pretty flash pair of boots last week - wool lining, nice bit of suede trim. Only drawback was that the soles have no grips on them which ain't such a good attribute going in to winter.

If you're looking for something a bit more flash for an outfit you might only wear a few times try H&M. The shoes generally last about 5 minutes but usually very cheap. I've also bought some really nice rustic type boots in River Island before - a good bit more expensive though.

    Timberland for the sh*tkickers!!

Not sure what your budget is, but maybe take a look at www.herringshoes.co.uk .They generally have quite a number of pairs as seconds or on sale for decent prices, especially with sterling at the moment. I got a pair of Loake Rankin a couple of months back for ~€120 delivered via Parcel Motel (same shoes €273 in Debenhams), and also a pair of Herring Moorgate (made by Loake) previously for about €150 (sterling was stronger then). Both are high quality Goodyear welted shoes, which can be resoled by Loake. They send a tub of the correct polish (worth about €12) with all new shoes, and you might be able to get a free pair of shoe trees as well with a code. Excellent service too.
