Is this anything to do with the PPT ? Plenty of greenway topics

Well, once the ppt gets abandoned and turned into a greenway, this thread will be right on topic.

dont agree, there is pressure on lines like waterford rossalare only recently closed and still serviceable to be converted to a greenway. Greenways mean an end to rail operation permanently, the experience in the UK is that converting back is nigh on impossible politically

opps sorry cut and paste into the wrong threads !!!

Many greenways would actually see greater use than the route would as a railway. How many people is Ennis-Athenry getting again? I think it's about 200 people a day. If it was a cycling route it would undoubtedly see more than that.

Absolutely not. Its the backup staff that are handy with the bans and infractions. Victor knew what he was dealing with. Bless him!:D

This is becoming more and more common in my experience of using the DART over the past few months to the extent now where I have stopped using the DART for the commute. It's at the stage where you need a first responder on each DART now.

It might have something to do with the fact the station wasnt manned as it used to be the depotman there who would go out and address these things but staff is being deliberatly run dow to remove them in many places now.

Is that a genuine question or an instruction?...

OK let's get back on topic (I know I was OT too.)

Where are we with PPT - I think it's in mid November now?

Where are we with 10-minute DARTs - looks like they'll need a payrise first now that Luas and Bus drivers have them?

Back on topic, any definite dates as to when this goes live? Apologies if this is clear as day but I've not been keeping abreast of the updates.

Looking forward to finally getting to travel on this stretch of track. I used to look at those tracks when I was kid and wonder where they went and why they weren't used. Will be taking a jaunt once this opens...

I may as well mention my fantasy for this route - a Cross Guns Bridge station. Somewhere that all services could stop and allow for even greater interchange, along with opening the northern end of Phibsboro, and Glasnevin, to impressive rail access.

    Pie in the sky?!

Its definite fantasy as its on the wrong line. Cross Guns is on the line to Docklands

It's on both - i think that's the point they were making

The real question is whether the people of Dublin would be able to do without des kelly carpets?

A station complex over both lines would be massive and require a lot more demolition than just Des Kelly; and would be impractically close to Drumcondra (which it can't replace; as it'll be a Metro interchange). Even with electrification it'd still be impractically close.

When the GSWR loop line opened about 1901 -1910, there were stations at both the present Drumcondra, and at Glasnevin, an island platform behind Porterhouse North, (or whatever they call it now-Whitworth?). The station building survives at the west end of the tennis club, you can see it from the top deck of a bus, on Whitworth Road.

That service was not a success at the time. With eight coach platforms at each end, it would be a very short section, but not as short as Kilbarrack - Howth Jn.

As you say, it's very close to Drumcondra so this is a bit of a moot point...

Otherwise though, it would be a great location. The distance between the tracks is only maybe 50m, narrowing to nothing west of the bridge. Behind des kelly currently has a fair bit of dead space, some of which is parking, but most is unused.

correct place for a station is where LUAS/PPT/Maynooth line all cross. There is just room for an interconnector station and would give Kildare line access to Sandyford via a single station change to LUAS

It is slightly odd alright that the new PPT trains will be passing directly under Luas tracks, but there is no real integration- possibilities would be get off at Drumcondra and double back to Broombridge(won't really work with current Maynooth frequencies) or get off at Connolly/Tara St. and access the Luas network from there.

The point I'm thinking of is west of cross guns bridge. The section of land between the (Drumcondra/northern line) bound tracks and the docklands-bound line.

The island platform would run from Glasnevin junction itself up to ~200 metres east, stopping near the road bridge.

Wonder why people are thinking of where the old Glasnevin station used to be.

PPT to Red Line at Connolly, yes but to green line would require Drumcondra and a brisk jog up Whitworth road , Phibsboro and Connaught St to the new LUAS stop

it's the access for Kildare, newbridge, Naas, Maynooth and Blanch/Clonsilla traffic to Sandyford via a single interchange and the city centre (SSG and Harcourt , Grand Canal and CBD very quickly - single interchange ) that appeals here , also its out of the city centre so reduces clutter.

( they are building a not too dissimilar thing in Edinburgh right now to allow airport trams easily access the Forth rail line see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh_Gateway_station )

Would it be worthwhile building a platform at croke park for use on match days?

One would expect pointless and it would be closed for crowd control
