And people say there's no such thing as a win-win situation.

Erm, how is that a win? We'd be getting a solicitor back!?!?

I wonder where Sonia oSullivan stands in all this ? i find it unusual that only Bernard oByrne has stuck the boot in, perhaps Pat has solid power over the rest of the board?

Those that stay quiet look less of an idiot/backstabber/troublemaker.
My guess is that she is biding her time before going for a senior post. She has the popularity to win it.

Where does Sonia live these days? Is she still based in Oz?

I read somewhere (I think) that her role in the OCI was purely as athlete liaison. I dont know if she'd have the appetite for the political manoeuvering needed to climb the greasy pole in the OCI. Meanwhile Bernard O'Byrne is doing trojan work in keeping his name and face in the Indo every day.

Maybe its time we moved away from the greasy pole climbers in a lot of areas.
Sonia or similar will do us fine.

We'd be getting a solicitor back that has been wanted since 2007, who failed to show up for a hearing in the high court and has spent his time since evading extradition. Why would we not want him back?

I worked for a company back in the zeros that he did business with. I met him once and he reminded me of Lionel Hutz from The Simpsons.

I'll have you know the contents of that dumpster are private! You stick your nose in, you'll be violating attorney-dumpster privilege!

    There's your answer
Irish Olympic hero Sonia O'Sullivan, a member of the OCI board since 2008, said she will now have to review her involvement with the board and said "we need answers as well".

Speaking yesterday, Ms O'Sullivan said she hasn't been a very active member of the OCI since London 2012 and said she would consider her position on the board in the future.

"I've been to very few meetings, so I would definitely have to review the situation when the re-election comes up next year.
"We never discussed buying and selling tickets, as the Olympic Council of Ireland, so we need to know the answers as well," she added, speaking to RTÉ Radio One's Ray D'Arcy.

"As part of the board, you feel responsible, so you have to stay there and help to find the answers and hopefully move the Olympic Council of Ireland onto bigger and better things."

The Brazilians are sending us Michael Lynn.

Out of politeness we should offer them John Delaney in return.

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2016/0913/816378-michael-lynn-court/

Arrested in 2013, extradition confirmed in 2016.
    3 years of legal challenges.

Different circumstances, but I'd imagine Pat is hoping for a quicker resolution

One option for a quicker resolution is to plead guilty. Quicker trial, smaller sentence.
Depending on how he feels about the evidence, might not be the worst choice.

I don't know if you heard or not, but he's innocent of all charges and the Brazilians have no real evidence.

Indeed, and he has "...been very heartened and humbled by the outpouring of support, letters, texts and emails from the thousands of people in Ireland and from the international sporting world.”

Truly one of the great statements of our time. It should be read with some stirring background music for maximum impact.

    Something like this:

Too much to hope there's clause in his contract relating to gross misconduct I suppose. He'll probably get a cash bonus.

Would it be gross misconduct if he did something here that was legal but the same thing was illegal in Brazil?

I'm not certain of all of the charges against him but some of them wouldn't be crimes here.

Maybe then he should have stayed here to flog the tickets to the Olympics rather than going out to Brazil.

That quote you have there Hurling, is a generic cut and paste used by all the great and the good. You know all those people contacting Inda.
We had the Peru 2 have we now the Brazil 2?

John Delaney doing his best Craig David impression and Walking Away.

I had nothing to do with Rio tickets
the appointment of Pro10 as the Authorised Ticket Reseller by the OCI was "not brought to the OCI Board’s attention"

Before and since his arrest in Rio, OCI president Pat Hickey has insisted the contract of Pro10 was decided by the entire executive committee of the sporting organisation.

Mr Delaney went on to say he was taking legal action against a number of media outlets, adding that he would not be commenting further for this reason.

    Quelle surprise

And the Rio police said Delaney and O'Brien were copied on the emails regarding tickets

Wonder if Pat still regards John so highly and reckons he'll be head of the OCI in 2020?

    Something like this:

OT but UCD would immediately top the world university rankings if that UCD Choral Scholars were part of the evaluation. Fantastically rousing 18th-century poem/song, world class execution. More please, UCD!

Anyway, the surprising thing about the Pat Hickey affair is that John Delaney has not been toppled yet. 12 years at the very top of the FAI and all those commercial deals...

PS: Great to see the Irish media being so united in demonising a person. Long live our glorious free press and all those fierce seekers of the truth, who find their bravery only when they smell the blood of a rapidly dying career.

    BBC spotlight tonight @ 22.45

why are we relying on a TV station from another jurisdiction to do a special on this scandal?

are RTE reluctant for some reason?
