Tips for first time waitress in a hotel?

I'm starting part time work in a hotel on Friday and although I'm looking forward to it, I'm also quite nervous as this will my first proper job as a waitress. I did basic restaurant/bar work in college last year but I wouldn't be very experienced and would be nervous carrying trays.

The manager told me there was a wedding Friday so I guess I'm being thrust in at the deep end. I did mention in my CV that my waitress skills were basic.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks that can prepare me more or ease my nerves? Thanks!

If possible ask to be partnered/work alongside with someone who has experience working weddings there and follow their lead.

Make sure you understand who's running the function: what order the tables will be served, cleared etc

Never be empty handed - if you're going to the bar or kitchen to get something, bring any empty glasses/plates with you

Serve plates from the guest's left, clear from the right

Bring a pen and paper for orders

    Wear comfortable shoes! (No heels)

If taking drinks orders, when you place the order at the bar order pints of Guinness first, then other pints, then wine/bottles/soft drinks (allows the Guinness to settle while the bartender sorts out the rest of the order)

These might be obvious to you but hopefully some of it might be helpful. Good luck!
