    Not Elba.

    I just realised I'm away tomorrow for a few days so won't be able to answer. So a clue....

    The town dates back to the mid 1500's and was very important in opening up the "New World".

    Also, another view...

    That's it, well done. Such tiny specks if land in the middle of the ocean. Mental that so many people live there.

    Oops sorry. I've just been reminded that

    8. OP doesn't confirm/deny the country/continent for the first 20 guesses or 24 hours;

    so I shouldn't have said anything about Iceland.
    but Keedowah, Balmed Out and Enda, you're not all wrong :)

    I thought I was being specific enough? The Andes near Bariloche?

    Correct.
    Italy on the right of the lake and Switzerland on the left.
    The building on the left is the Hospice founded by Saint Bernard a thousand years ago.
    The Hospice was where the St. Bernard dogs were originally bred and although they don't breed them there any more, they still keep some.
    They bring them a few hundred metres up the mountain every day, along the track the photo is taken from, to exercise them and give them a roll around in the snow.
    Hikers (familia josip) are welcome to follow along.
