Hey, looking for some advice and help! I love the touchscreen in my 131 Avensis and I has the premium audio pack so the sound it good to, 9 speakers, not sure if there is a sub in there tho. I am looking for a little bit more tho. Back it the day I have a celica with a full audio system fitted my my self that I loved and am looking for that bit more from the Avensis.
What I am looking for may not be a runner but that's why I'm here. I would assume the head unit would not have RCAs out for a sub? Any way I don't fancy rutting around there as it's still under warranty. Also even if I ran a sub it would need to be very removable as I use the boot a lot. So next would be running a small sub from the rear speakers? Does this work ok? And would it affect the sound over all? Next would be a speaker upgrade but I reckon the difference would be minimal? More so that it prob would only be a few of the easy accessible speakers, it would be hard get at the dashboard one I think. To throw into the mix that I may change the car soon too in the mix don't help, plus I am on a minimum budget! So basically I am looking for the best upgrade on a budget or is it really worth it?

You can use a subwoofer even if your head unit doesn't have low level RCA outputs. You can get a high level to low level adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/sourcingmap-Socket-Speaker-Level-Converter/dp/B009AQLYXM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1474720247&sr=8-4&keywords=low+level+rca

I've used this particular one in my car with a factory Ford head unit. This splices into the wiring for your door speakers from the head unit. I wired mine to the rear speakers and then the subwoofer plugs into the RCA leads. I would suggest you get a small active subwoofer (with an amplifier built in) and it will enhance the quality of the sound a lot!

A small 10" subwoofer (even a Halfords one) is great. Mine has been running for 2 years now and it's the cheapest in Halfords. As long as you configure your output to sound like it should and not go for "max bass lawd" it will be a reliable setup!
