VAT on Invoiced Services to Non Eu Resident

Hi
Had a look here but could not see what i was looking for. Maybe someone can clarify for me
I recently got some financial help advice from an accountancy firm in Ireland and was told when they quoted me a fee
"Because you are resident outside the EU we will not have to charge you VAT on this figure. "
I thought great..............and no VAT was charged

Now I have got an invoice for services provided by a Real Estate Company with VAT included.
Does the same apply here because I am non resident in Ireland ........
