Form 12 - Tax return for year 2015

I have just received a letter from revenue advising me that i am required to deliver a 2015 Return of Income Form. 25 years as a PAYE worker this is a first for me. I'm clueless about tax and am wondering is this now a standard request, is it random.. and why does a PAYE worker need to fill out a 16 page form about their income. I mean they know who I am employed by and they know what i earned.

A form 12 is for PAYE workers with small amount of other income. Revenue also select people at random to file them to make sure all the details are correct. While the form may be 16 pages you will find alot of it is not relevant to you.0 -
