Just wondering about a sky+hd box.

A family member upgraded their subscription to sky q so they have some sky+hd boxes lying around the house.. The family member has recordings of races on them and wants to back up them up, I have read that you can't view these recordings without a valid card but I'm wondering if I put my card in or he gets a new one will you be able to view the recordings or are they completely gone now?

    Regards,

They're tied to the account that recorded them. I used an old box with a new card and subscription and I was unable to view the recordings.

Only the card used to record them can unlock the playback, if the subscription and card were transferred to the new box then the card should work in the old box still, it will no longer unlock premium channels though.

If the recordings you want are off an unencrypted (FTA) channel they can be transferred to a PC by taking the HDD out of the sky+ box.

If the recordings are from unencrypted channels you can use any viewing card with the Sky+ entitlement on it in order to play them back. It's only recordings from encrypted channels which are locked to your specific viewing card.
