    they look fab! well done.
did you keep them in the fridge? it can sweat if it cools to quickly either in the fridge or in a cold kitchen.
and you can never have to thick a jelly layer thats the best bit!!!
I think I figured out what the problem was: I only had 80% chocolate in the house so I added a teaspoon of butter to 'loosen' it up a bit and it separated when it cooled. ;) They tasted fine anyways.

A new series of the Dutch series of Bake Off has just started, Heel Holland bakt.

The setting in the tent is exactly the same, all looks the same. Even the music is the same I think.

A key difference of course is that it's Dutch treats are made. I still find it great to make new discoveries.

So two helpings of cake every week. :D

Just watched Another Slice and Chronicles of Nadiyah (first episode) while eating a lovely moist chocolate cupcake - nice way to round off a busy weekend!

Has anyone tried to make them Viennese Whirrrllls? I've given up...

    Attempt one:
    Viennese%20Whirls_zps9uayje7c.jpg

    Attempt ywo:
    Viennese%20Whirls%20Take%20Two_zpshbaborxl.jpg

And the third and last attempt:
    Viennese%20Whirls%20Take%20Three_zpsmcbzftpe.jpg

I didn't bother finishing them, they got eaten anyways... I followed Marry's recipe again, I thought batter was too soft at the first attempt, so added more flour in the second go, still too soft and they splayed a lot. The third batch was close enough and it could've been better if I had a bigger piping nozzle.

Did you fridge them first? They're basically a balancing act with the butter.

If you want gooey wide chocolate chip cookies, have the dough warm - the butter will melt and spread before the egg or binding agent has time to solidify

If you want thicker biscuits, the butter needs to be cold going into the oven to prevent it melting and spreading before the biscuits solidify

I'm not a baker at all, but I always weant to try something after bread week. Maybe this year....

I did chill each batch for 15-20mins before putting them in the oven. Consistency of the dough made the biggest difference. Remember last week some gbbo contestants had difficulty piping their biscuits and my first batch piped more like whipped cream....

Made something like this before. Made 8 joined squares of chocolate bread with raisins and nuts. Was formed to look like a bar of Cadbury's Fruit & Nut.

Used a modified redipe for hot cross buns.

    Very nice, but very addictive.

Hope silasy gets back in the game this week. Val annoys me so I'm hoping she messes up.

Last year we had Cecil The Lion in the bread category. Will he be beaten tonight? (even though he didn't get Star Baker last year).

I think it's more of a poker face (even more than usual). He enjoys being the Devil's advocate, especially as bread is really his thing.

Bakers aren't as showy as last year. Really looking forward to batter week, nice to see them mix it up a little

I wish Candice would stop pursing her lips like that; it makes her look very hard.

Really liked Jane's bread; the cranberry crown thing. Looked great.

Andrew is very likeable and I was glad his barmbrack turned out good, especially when Paul had his doubts about him only proving it once.

    Absolutely adore Mel and Sue!

Really thought Andrew would get star baker. Very surprised Tom got it and if Paul is right and the bread week star baker always makes the final looks like Tom is here to stay.

Batter week next week looks interesting. Good to see the change things up.

Mel this week trying to contain herself with the bread phallus. Classic.

Just finished now as I recorded it on Sky Plus. Was shocked to see Michael go, thought it would have been Val.....

Also, Paul Hollywoods' reaction when he tried the shot of Cypriot drink Michael presented was absolutely priceless :pac:

I really thought it would be Val to go this week as well, I wouldn't be surprised if she goes next week.

Had anyone heard of dampfnudel before this episode? I hadn't so I quite enjoyed the little bit of history, and of course the song :D

When she said 'this is how I used to plait my pony's tail' I vommed a little. She reminds me of Frances who was on it a few years ago - perfectly nice and very earnest and quite skilled and all but eminently dislikeable at the same time!

I reckon she'll go far though.

    Yes exactly.
Like I said before, there's always a wholesome goody goody stay-at-home Mum who for some reason, becomes irritating on the GBBO.

And I'm really not getting the resentment being directed at her. She seems to just be as she is, not changing herself to suit the cameras. Seems to be a smart, hard working person from a very middle class background - is that a taboo now?
