Fast forward to .59 seconds, luckily I was taking it handy and there was nothing behind me so I could reverse. Who would be wrong if they hit his front wheel???

BTW it looks like I am flying but watch the indicated speed.

YouTube has a fairly decent video editing suite (at least compared to Windows Movie Maker) that can easily trim videos rather than having to give instructions in thread about where the meaty moments are.

Bearing in mind the tragic accident on the M8 yesterday, here's some cyclists on the M11 motorway who pull into the traffic lane at roadworks. They were wearing club shirts so they surely should have known how dangerously stupid this was.

WTF!!!!!!! Gobsh1tes. I don't know anyone who doesn't know it is illegal to cycle on the motorway, let alone club cyclists!!!

The bray wheelers have a seriously bad rep but this takes the biscuit

Pass that footage to the Gaurds before some poor bastard has to have one of these idiots removed from their windshield. At the very least the local Gardai can call round to some of the club members and tell them how absolutely brain dead they are.

Nah, that'll be the fault of all those cars on the motorway. Or the roadworks, or pedestrians on a footpath in Sutton or something not cycling related.

As a cyclist and motorists the only person at fault is the cyclist,
They deserve a good kick in the arse and some fines for putting themselves and others in danger.

No cyclist in the cycling forum will think cycling on a motorway is a smart thing to do, no more then I'd imagine motorists here would think its ok for them to drive on footpaths when they are on their way to somewhere.

Post that video in the Cycling forum and you'll have an equally dumbstruck response as you get on the Motors one.

It's nothing like the Bray Wheelers kit.

What about four lads from not from the area, in fact not from the country, who may have taken a wrong turn?

Why not just give all the info you have, rather than trying to troll here:

    It's the M11 southbound alright.

Found the ride on Strava. It's four guys doing a charity cycle from the North all the way to Rome. Giving them the benefit of the doubt I would guess that they just took a wrong turn and didn't mean to go straight on at Loughlinstown roundabout to the motorway - or were blindly following a pre determined GPS route on their Garmin.

Looks like a bunch of lads, not local, doing a charity cycle that perhaps could have gotten lost. Or they're just dumb.

I hope the OP does not mind, and I should have asked first - sorry - but I posted in the cycling forum last night. Not a single person trying to defend them, I don't think anyone can take a psoition contrarty to this being absolute madness and we all know how contrary drivers and cyclists can be in relation to their chosen method of transport.

To be fair, the two are not mutually exclusive :) As already mentioned, there are clear enough signs at the entry to a motorway that they should have thought twice, and indeed known not to proceed, even if they were gone wrong.

Ironically enough, the first cyclist I saw using a motorway (and I've literally only seen 2 or 3) was actually a member of the Garda Cycling Club, rather perversely. Now while this is not to say that they were a Garda, most of their membership are, and those who are not have been vouched for by Gardai, so you might be surprised by how much (or indeed how little) some Gardai might care too.

I don't really accept the excuse that they got lost. The M11 around that area is pretty well sign-posted and failing to notice the signs is pretty deplorable anyway. But the real problem was what they did once they got to the motorway. They continued on as if there wasn't a problem rather than get off the road and seek help but then...

But then the kicker is that when they got to the roadworks, they still continued as if there wasn't a problem and taking no more care of their own safety than having one of them stick their arm out, took to cycling in the driving lane of a motorway.

It beggars belief and they were incredibly lucky the drivers around them had their wits about them. They could so easily have been today's grim headlines.

I did say I wasn't sure if it was them, the shirts were white and purple but I went by them very fast. It was also just outside Bray. If I've done them a disservice by saying I thought it was them and it wasn't, sorry.

So lets say we do give them the benefit of the doubt and they came on at Loughlinstown by accident. (which I just don't buy in the slightest)

Why the fu(x did they continue for about 3km to the next exit... but choose not to take it and instead they cross the exit lane in order to continue on their merry way and then cross the entry lane on the far side before them met the road works.

Sorry pal, but I don't buy it. These guys knew exactly what they were doing. IF it was some aul lad on a high nelly, I could possibly accept the "accident" but these guys have all the gear, they are knowledgeable cyclists and they knew they were heading for a motorway and they didn't give a damn.

Totally agree the most likely scenario was they were following some sort of GPS map, but I certainly would not allow that as a benefit of the doubt excuse as they have 8 eyes between them. Just to damn lazy to go the long way around.

Goes to show you how little the motorways are policed in the hours they would have been on that route.

I wonder what would happen if the Gards did stop them on the motorway? Are they told to continue and exit at the next junction? Are they fined? Told to walk on the hard shoulder?

Assuming he was oversized (more then 2.55m wide) then it would be probably his fault, as he should have a pilot car.
If within 2.55m wide, then probably 50/50.

    Are they completely stupid?

They should be taken in for stern warnings, impossible they didn't know they weren't to be on the motorway, would have been a lot of planning so this would have come up, they obviously chose to ignore it completely.

Most cyclists are completely daft. I was accelerating up to 100 km/h on the sliproad onto the N7 inbound. In between the sliproad and the N7 are a bunch of posts so you cannot enter it. So before I reach the end of the posts I'm doing roughly 95 km/h and this cyclist decides to get off the N7 and he ends up crossing the slip road perpendicular to the road and almost stops dead at the end of it. I literally had ABS kicking in trying to stop!

If you cannot drive with the pace of traffic on M or N roads (N roads that are similar to motorways, e.g the N7) you shouldn't be on it!
