Heading over on the ferry this weekend to stock up.
Just wondering if anyone has been to the Geant Casino supermarket in Morlaix? Specifically, if you buy wine there do you have to take them off the shelf as single bottles and pack them all into bags yourself or can you buy cases of 6,12 etc straight off the shelf? Imprtant in terms of packing and loading into the car :)

    Thanks in advance

We bought our wine about 2 hours drive from the port so I cant help with specific outlets. As above, this Carrefour sold most wine singly and the only boxes available were those on the shop floor on special offer. They had a few cardboard boxes out back waiting to be crushed - a helpful young staff member got those for us.

A friend had this experience; one supermarket near Roscoff was going to charge him for each cardboard box they retrieved. He went to another supermarket and found 'a staff member who was able to smile' and also if they were younger they tend to have better english, unless your french is up to the task.

Wine Beer Supermarket sometimes have a free wine tasting on board in September. I was at one a couple of years ago. I ticked every single wine on the menu and had seconds of some of them. Needless to say, I slept like a baby that night.
Spent a few hundred there on the return leg and they threw in a free case of wine as they do discounts when you buy over a certain amount. I had kept by card where I rated the wines so I knew exactly what to buy when I got there.

Doing the same route next week myself so fingers crossed.

The "Foires Aux Vins" is on for the next couple of weeks. Basically, it's a big wine "event" in the major supermarkets so I hope they are coping for bulk buying. Geant Casino seem to be running a fairly big one so that's why I was going to try it.
    If you follow this link:

You can see all the wines available. (If it prompts you to enter a location type in Morlaix). The selection seems pretty good.
I'm also planning to call in at the Wine Beer Supermarket after that :)

I was in WBS in June, hadn't been for a number of years. I thought the place offered poor value for money. I'm no connoisseur but better wines and value were available in supermarkets and wine merchants, I quite like the Nicolas chain. http://www.nicolas.com/en/

:D Compared to the French, the Irish don't bulk-buy! You'll be fine. :pac:

As a rule, the bottles on display are for last-minute purchases. Any of them will be available in boxes of 6 if you ask (but you'd want to be serious about it, e.g. taking ten or twenty boxes before a member of staff would be bothered getting them from the store).

For info, here are the dates for the autumn "foire aux vins" http://www.linternaute.com/homme/art-de-vivre/1126952-foire-aux-vins-date-2016-carrefour-auchan-nicolas/

I was there last weekend. The Geant is well set up, some nice wines. Mainly the usual stuff but we did find some new ones. You can take wine in cartons of six or pick up empty cartons and pack them yourself. (Take them out at the till)

The Red Bus has done up the store and is very nice now. You'll get the usual 10% discount or free bottles, whichever you like.
