Open water swimming, anyone swim year round?

Hi all, just getting into this OW swimming lark in a meaningful way this year, there's a lake quite near me where there is a nice 650m or 1k course laid out. Swam Saturday in skins and would hope to continue at least once a week in the lake til it becomes too cold and then might throw on the old wetsuit.
Anyone have opinions on when the lakes become cold, I know the sea after September is too cold for skins - would love to hear from OW swimmers.

The sea actually stays warm enough for skins right up till end of October. I normally swim all year round in skins anyway. May only do 100m when it gets down to 6.5. But always swim with a group for safety.

And this is my advice to you , never swim alone even if you have a wetsuit. Up until recently a group of us purchased the float buoys you clip around your waist, great for putting car keys in and mobile phone if some gurrier goes through your bag while out swimming.

Hi thanks for that, I bought one of the swim secure buoys and tried it out recently, very good and hardly noticed it on. I swim alone because I'm not in a club yet and due to work etc. I've swam in the sea all summer but it is a bit of a spin to the Clare coast - I'm near Ennis, the lake is a 5 minute drive and is a nice swim too.
