Did you not qualify for JSB in your own right? At any point?

Yes I was on Jsb for for first 12 months before getting means tested, but I wasn't living with him then. I moved in with him about 2 months after I went onto Jsa and went down to the dole office in town to move my claim from my previous address which had a different dole office, was advised as we were now living together, a new claim had to be setup under his name with myself as a QA but they never explained what limitations there would be as a QA in terms of courses etc. They just merged everything under his name and cancelled my claim.

I get that, but does living together (for over 5 years) having a kid together etc not suffice

Funny it does under the http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2010/act/24/enacted/en/html

Most people in the situation have many of the obligations of marriage unless the contract out. My own view a couple in such a situation may have a good challenge to the system also in light of the children's referendum. Just my 2 cents worth.

If you have made enough contributions it's NOT means tested tbf

There are some situation (eg having a very small side income) where even JSB is means tested against both your incomes, no matter how many contributions you have made.

Can you reference that for me?

I have no links, but am going through it right now.

My side income is so small that I don't even pay class S PRSI on it, my main income was a salary and I've paid class A PRSI on it for over 5 years continuously.

And i am being means tested for JSB. Have to provide all the same documents that a jsa applicant would, even though I've said I don't want to bother trying for ajsa cos I know I won't get it.

If it's not granted, then it basically proves that there's no point paying class A, and so I'll just look for daily rate contracting in future.

Ah that's where you have an income. But if you were completely unemployed you would qualify for JSB based on contributions- that's not means tested.

Having a small income is a rather different situation

You can claim her PAYE credit but not the other, so you can get an extra 1650 in credits.

Jobseekers benefit is taxable so you need to be sure that you are still under the limits or may face an unexpected tax bill.
