Well that's really the question now. What trophy did each of them win at some point.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,234 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Oh, I thought Rube had somehow 'got it'. They all won the same trophy, but there are a number of nationalities and football, boxing, tennis, running and presumably others, so it possibly wasn't a sports trophy? I don't suppose they all won oscars, did they?

    I think I owe ye a question...
What makeyuppy word connects English playwright Samuel Foote (1720-1777) and novelist Nevil Shute (1899 – 1960)

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,234 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Meanwhile I will chuck in an extra for consideration - how many feet in a kilometer (to within a couple of feet :D )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32,688 ✭✭✭✭ytpe2r5bxkn0c1

Thinking out loud and approximately ...

1600 m to a mile (based on 1500m race being a 'metric mile')

    1760 yard in a mile x3= 5280 feet
    5280/1600 = 3.3x1000 = 3300 approx..

Approximation is slightly high on metres to mile so amend to 3290

Probably as far out as the lighthouse.

I know Foote wrote of a Panjandrum but I don't know if Shut did too.

Incidentally it was the name given to an obscure rocket propelled big wheeled cart weapon on WW2.

Not much gets past you, S!
Shute named a military device The Great Panjandrum, Foote mentioned The Grand Panjandrum
