IVs will never change. Dont waste rare candies on a bad 'un.
Better to wait for a better CP and better IV specimen. As you go up in trainer level your chance of seeing higher CP goes up, and all that time you are building up Stardust and candy. And you might catch a high IV specimen.

I'm a bit of a casual player and as such don't get out all that much. i'm on level 19 now but my stats compared to tothers on here even at only level 20 are shocking ha. I've only caught about 550 pokemon for example and walked under 40Km.

I do turn it on when i go for a stroll on the beach or when im out and about on my lunch break but bar that its off so i hardly ever find new or high level mon.

In that case I think you're not going to care about IVs then. New pokemon and high CP is really your goal.
(Saying that, if 2 pokemon have equal CP & HP, after evolve the one with higher IVs will be better.)

There is a Charmander at the same spot at around 8:30ish on my journey to work each morning. If i get there on time he's usually there, so far the highest CP is 346 but his IV is 13%

    0 attack
    3 Defence
    3 Stamina

Is that a joke haha? I mean can a pokemon's IV change once evolved or is that his lot in life! Destined to be a runt?

I've nearly enough candies to evolve one to a Charmeleon though so should i just hold off in hopes a decent one eventually spawns there? The next highest i have is a 320CP with 37% IV

    2 Attack
    11 Defence
    4 Stamina

    Still pretty useless? FFS Charmander:rolleyes:

Are ya gonna tell us where?

Just Caught two Growlithe in Merrion Square. I'm pretty sure it's becoming a spawn there.

Weird, I've never even seen a Charmander in my sightings, never mind caught one and finally hatched one from an egg. 6 minutes later I got one in the wild.

Seen an article on twitter yesterday about the spawn rates of the region-specific pokemon. The rumour is that it they have increased, more and more people catching them or seeing them in their nearby. Few comments on here seem to back that up.
I did a few scans with pokescanner, definitely seems to be a few more around Dublin than there used to be.

Yay caught my first pikachu and then found a second one and he ran away, also a beast of wartortle ran. I'm guessing a red circle means you need a perfect throw.

I've caught red circle pokemons with just a curveball, no Nice, Great or anything. The 2131CP Vaporeon I caught yesterday was red circle and I caught it with just a Nice throw + curveball on the 2nd attempt.

    If I understand correctly...

The color of the circle indicates how difficult a catch it's going to be. You can affect the difficulty of the catch by a number of methods:

    - Type of Pokeball
    - Razz berry
    - Type of throw

Throw does "Nice" if you have the circle at its widest, "Great" if you have the circle at its middle point, and "Excellent" if you have the circle at its smallest point. The smaller the circle, the higher the chance of catching the pokemon. Curveballs give an additional higher chance of catching.

Note that none of these govern whether or not you'll catch something - just what gives the best odds. You can still fail to catch a CP10 Pidgey with an Ultraball, razz berry, and an Excellent Curveball. You can still catch a 900+CP Pokemon with a plain oul' Pokeball on your first rubbish throw - that's how probabilities work :D

it's also what leads to phones nearly being thrown at walls:pac::D

The amount of times i've used 5 or 6 pokeballs on a weak Pidgey only for it to keep popping back out. I keep saying i'll just run away.... but i don't, it's like well I've committed now. I HAVE to capture this little bastard! 9 Pokeballs he legs it and i'm left there with my lad in my hand and no Pokeballs to catch anything else.

Depending on the pokemon's CP I decide how many balls I'm gonna use so if a 25 drowzee pops up, I'm using one regular ball only. If it hops out, I'm legging it!! If it's a 600cp drowzee I'm razzing and great balling that dude!! There's nothing worse than a below 100 pokemon jumping from a regular ball. I think anything below 100 cp should be an automatic capture when hit properly.

Got an Excellent throw on a Nidoran earlier, broke out after one shake and immediately ran. Annoyed about that one, as it was the first ball I'd thrown too.

Finally hit level 20, didn't take too long considering I just hit 19 yesterday.

Bandy-legged Mr. mime is the new Zubat! Don't know why I even try to catch him any more. One is enough. He is hilarious in a fight though, to give him his due.

I promised myself not to throw balls at any rat/pigeon/worm/caterpillar under 100CP after about ten fleescapes in a row. The very next Mon was a 99CP rat!

    He escaped, naturally.

One squirtle away from a wartortle and can evolve a Persian but their CP is low. Do I really care? I'm unlikely to ever get as far as a blastoise or use a Persian in a battle...

I tried my first gym in weeks earlier. Some scumbag botter stole it before I could put anything in. Killed his Mon and put 18CP Botarfraoi in.

Finally caught that last Ekans to evolve.
Mr. mime was in the shadows today but I missed him :(
Hope to see him again soon.

Probably worth hoarding a few Mr Mimes - once trading is introduced it'll be a good one with any friends you might have that live in the US, Asia, Australia etc. Just a thought.

I got a wartortle yesterday. Wife caught it with 1 normal ball. I used about 3 normal, 5 great, 10 ultras and about 5 raspberries! Loads of great throws too.
    At least it didn't run

Sorry for this basic question, but does the CP of a pokemon you evolve have any bearing on the CP of the new evolved pokemon e.g. is it always better to evolve your highest CP Eevee and just transfer the rest?

Yeah of course, the higher the CP of the pokemon you're about to evolve, the higher it's CP will be after evolution. You can use one of the many evolution calculators out there to find out roughly what CP it'll be after evolution, for example this one https://pokefind.co/evolution.php

I don't know about transfering the rest though. Even though I'm only gonna evolve one, I still like to keep 2, 3 or 4 of the same pokemon. Just because :pac:

There's a Taurus in a Greystones gym this evening. I'd love to find that user and confirm where they got it!

Yes, the higher cp is the best. The evloves are done on multipliers. So for example a 400 eevee will produce an 1100 Vaporeon, 1000 Flareon and an 800 Jolteon.
You know about the rename trick.

Also don't discount Jolteon, in my experience it's s much better Pokemon in this country than Flareon.

There was a Kangaskhan in the WIT Dome bar gym in Waterford last week.

Caught a Vaporeon yesterday at the in-laws house :)

Only had about 7 pokeballs. Such stress!

Today's hatches were a Ghastly and a Venonat. Poor. I had three empty egg slots so I tried the 10 pokestop trick to try and get a 10km egg. got 3 5kms. Ugh. One the plus side I did catch that last Krabby I needed for an evolve! I have 30 now ready to evolve, including two that will be new (Krabby and Ghastly). I'm a stones throw away from level 20 so I'm hoping to get there tomorrow. Running seriously low on Pokeballs though, damn countryside!

Yeah did all the above raspberry think only nice throw and ultra ball. Maybe it's predetermined whether you catch because it took a while to appear. Hope tangela gets evolution soon since I have a beast of one that hatched.

Only went lvl 20 yesterday. Are the ultra balls ultra rare from pokestops? Hit a good 10+ today and didn't get one. Should I be saving them for 1000+ CP?? Not that iv ever seen one in the wild. Only 1 I have I evolved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,342 ✭✭✭fatknacker

I'm almost certain I saw a Taurus in my shadows here a few weeks back.
    Almost.

Yeah they are rare enough. I save them for hard to catch ones like the starter pokemon (Squirtle, Charmander, Bulbasaur), also Pikachu and sometimes Abra since they always run if they break out of the 1st ball.

I also use one if I run into a pokemon which I don't have yet in the pokedex or I run into a pokemon stronger than the current strongest I have i.e. if my strongest Eevee is 700CP and I run into a 750CP Eevee, I will Ultra ball it just in case.

As for 1000CP+ pokemon, it depends on the pokemon. If I run into a 1000CP Jynx, I won't Ultra ball it. In fact I'll probably just leg it. I'm sick of Jynxes. Same with others that I already have many of such as Hypnos, Starmies, Golducks, etc. A 1000CP+ Snorlax or Lapras on the other hand, I'll Ultra ball it for sure.

Yeah, Ultra balls are pretty rare from Poke Stops. I tend to keep them for something I really want like high CP starters or (as mentioned above) Abra, new Pokemon I dont have. I use them sparingly, although I wasted 6 Ultra balls on a Mr Mime on Saturday night and caught with the first Great ball! Sometimes I wonder if it makes a difference.
