Just a warning for anyone looking to take out Sky Q now, they have completely changed their pricing for installation. I called in June and was offered Sky Q Silver and two mini boxes for €179 installation. I didn't take it at the time as it was before our holidays and didn't have the money. Just called again ready to order and was now quoted €360 to install exactly the same thing. Seems like they are now charging €120 per box installation and you don't get the free mini box with Sky Q Silver any longer. I was going to switch my Broadband and phone to them as well.

Not surprisingly I didn't place an order

I am getting Sky Q installed tomorrow but under the old pricing so a free mini box with installation. Is this new pricing definitely in - i ordered two weeks ago? I also heard there is no longer going to be the two variants of the Sky Q box just the silver but don't know if that's true.

Am really missing the 'Favourites' option, I thought it might have come with the last update

New to Sky and only got Q installed on Friday, is there any way at all to sort the channel list on the guide? It's a pain going through channels I've no interest in.

It's the only thing annoying me at the moment and the only thing I preferred on the Horizon box.

    Unfortunately no.

The EPG is a complete mess and has no pattern to it, with SD and HD channels all mixed and popular channels such as BBC way don the EPG.

yes its on, but you paid on the only price so id stick with that as the monthly sub i slight cheaper if you are taking a/many mini boxes

On the boxes there will still be the Sky Q (now 1TB) and Sky Q Silver (now 2TB) boxes

It's the only thing I dislike about sky. Being a UK based epg with the Irish channels tacked on doesn't help either.

Just a day before the Sky Q brochure, I sent off £99, being a years insurance for the old box. May have made more sense to go for the Q offer at an extra £12/ month, with the new box coming with a years warranty. On the other hand not being a sports fan, and with no broadband available for years to come, perhaps I did the right thing?

Won't be changing anytime soon, Sky is unique among TV providers of having a regulated EPG and it has to follow the rules agreed with Ofcom in the UK.

reboot, thats a lot ie £99.00 as you can buy hd boxes secondhand for less. I thought the sky q stuff is only loaned so no need for a warranty.

Oh, I'm aware of that. Ofcom are a ridiculous organisation. Dumb EPG rules, Mandatory PIN code that cannot be disabled by a consenting adult etc etc.

Folks are there any advantages to having the sky q box wired into the router versus using the WIFI apart from the obvious?

I had sky Q installed this morning with one mini box as described above. I was due to be at home when the engineer was there but couldn't in the end so he installed them on the wifi. I've only been messing around with it for a few minutes but i'm just wondering if there is an advantage to homeplugging the Q box into the router or the mini to the router? I have a pair of homeplugs at home unused and i haven't really noticed any sluggishness in my limited time playing around with it.

Anyone gone for the homeplug route or just using the wifi?

    Cheers

    Is your broadband with Sky?

If not the mini streams from the main box and not your router so the homeplugs wouldn't help

Anyone having any issues with the sky q app? I can't connect to the sky Q box app just keeps saying search again. In setting on the box it says it's ready for sky app.

    Anyone?

You need a UK sub to watch encore. I had the hd version for a few months in other channels because I had the hd pack but sky closed the loop hole.

I think it's terrestrial or Sky sub only. One of those channels to discourage VM uptake in the UK.

Am i the only one who cannot connect to the sky Q app via the ipad? I can download it no problem but it constantly says cannot find sky q box - please connect to sky q box and then directs me to sky go app. On the Q box i have the little tick beside the sky Q app and even tried reinstating it - nothing.

Think i'll ring sky today one of the big time for the other half was to watch live tv on the ipad so i'm getting the evils now over my false selling :-)

UPDATE: Ok just off the phone to sky they told me it cannot connect as i already have 4 devices connected on sky go. WTF seems bizarre as i'm using the same already registered devices but because it's the sky q app it thinks its a different device which basically means i've to remove the sky go functionality on the ipad to add the sky q functionality

I thought the same but Sky themselves told me this. Seems very odd

Have you got 2 sky subs?? I was under the impression once you got sky q, the card was transferred to sky q and the other boxes were made redundant!!

And is sky go and sky q app basically the same thing?

Can you check your online account to see the number of devices?

No only 1 sub. i upgraded to sky Q as of yesterday. I had multi room originally so i've always had 4 devices on my sky go extra (all of which are used up) I just removed one today to test the sky Q app later.

I basically thought once i had the device registered it shouldn't matter if its used for Sky Go or Sky Q app - as it stands it appears as if i'll have to remove my ipad as a sky go device and then add it as a sky q device. Seems very backwards and especially with only one change allowed a month

No i don't think so. I was due to be in the house when engineer was there but couldn't make it so father in law was there. Is there anyway if i can check do i have it? Its extremely doubtful that i do though

You can pretty much guarantee you didn't get one so.

To be sure, the Sky wideband LNB only has 2 outputs. If that's the one you have, you don't have a hybrid. The hybrid has 6 outputs.

Im having a strange problem with a mini. Sometimes when I turn it and the TV on, the only thing that is visible is the small picture on the left hand side. The rest of the screen is blank (black) and the only way to get out of it is to disconnect the power cable and reconnect to the network again. Anyone else had this?

    Happens to me too.

I checked out the sky help forums and apparently sky are aware of the issue. Seems to only happen since the last update.

Mine only seems to get noisy when I switch off television to go to sleep.

Do ye leave the mini box in standby when not in use or power off from wall? Generates a bit of heat so was wondering if it wud be better to leave it completely off it not in use.

I know you have link it to the main sky q box when you power on again but that's not an ordeal.

    Just wondering what people do.

When I changed my mini boxes to standby setting, it wasn't as hot as when I left it on permanently so I leave them plugged in , however if I was going away for any length of time I would unplug them
