    Lane 8. Everyone behind him.

Ah yeah....i'm thinking of another run...not sure which one. Been a long two weeks !!

Lane One wasn't it, the tight lane, even more incredible.

Definitely Lane 8, the toughest of all lanes from which to run a fast time, IMO. No-one outside you to use as a pacemaker.

I'd be curious to see how Ireland's performance compares to countries of a similar size.

Does anyone know if there is a way to measure medal wins by population?

Also, was there a medal target announced for Team Ireland?

poster mansize posted a very detailed link on medal table based on population. It's from a few days ago on this thread.

There's always a silver lining, guys. Monday blues won't last long. Rose of Tralee is back!

I gave up on the ROT after Gabby Logan didn't win in 1991.

F***ing judges must have been bribed, Michael Conlan all over again

Very strange race that. Sure you could run that again tomorrow and have a completely different result.

Kiprop was like a train on the back-straight, and that was it. Nothing left in the last 100. Must have overdone it on the back-straight.

Annalise's silver was definitely the high point. I don't think I've ever seen an Irish medalist look as happy as she did, the four years of hurt after London meant it was a huge release for her.....she was beyond overjoyed.

Mick Conlan was robbed clearly and I'm beginning to think Katie was too. I read today that she outscored her opponent by 14 punches in a fight she supposedly "lost".

Have been following Annalise's FB Sailing page for the past four years. Was gutted for her when she was pipped for a medal place in 2012, especially as she had been doing so well in the earlier days. Absolutely thrilled for her!

    Rio2016 has been fantastic!

Feel bad for Mick and Katie, though. It would be one thing if they had fought badly, but to think they were better on the night and they did not get their just reward is heartbreaking.

Of course, I do also have to beat Heidi Heidi on post count, and know that she was posting earlier in another thread about going to bed after doing an overnight offshore race :pac:

I have been gently imbibing alcohol this evening.

Oooh 800m in womens up now, will Caster go all out and wallop the ancient record?

Gabby Logan to Paula Radcliffe on BBC1... "could you briefly explain the recent developments in Athletics Gender Chromosome Determinants regarding Castor Semenya" **

    There's a hospital pass question.

    ** something like that anyway

Fecks sake that wasn't even a race, is she even sweating?

She could have stopped, had a pee, and still won.

Is that not to do with the CAS case taken by the Indian athlete which forced the IAAF to stop female intersex athletes being required to take drugs to reduce their testosterone?

Something amiss maybe? That just looked too bad to be true.

Portugal has a population of 10m and only have a solitary bronze. In fact they have a worse historic total record than Ireland.
4 golds to our 9, and 24 medals in total to our 31!
Maybe its because of their football teams, but I would have expected them to have a significantly better record at the Olympics.

I think he got it wrong. Kicked too hard and was left without a real kick in the last 100. He kind of didn't need to push it so fast on the back-straight. It even looked overcooked.

Something not quite right with that race. Was like putting Arkle in a donkey derby.

Are you including our three swimming golds from Atlanta in that ten? I wouldn't

They are officially Ireland's medals, so we should include them.

True, I think they are tainted though, I know it's been discussed to death however :)

Yeah...he just needed to be in touch with 100 to go and he'd have burned them all down, tactical brain seems to let him down sometimes.

Anyone know why Semenya pulled out of the 400 here, did she give a reason? Cant see any reason why she wouldn't have gone for the two?
