Pen, paper, envelope and a 2 stamps.

Write to Comreg and the Data Protection Commissioner.

Calling call centres in Mumbai is not going give you satisfaction.

To log a complaint with comreg , you need first to log one with 3.
File an official complaint and get a reference number. Comreg will need this.

Or ring comreg which is far easier in my experience in the past. Get a comreg number, once they hear that number they tend to stop running you in circles as you are not just a ranter. Make sure you have your complaint number from 3 to give comreg as well.

I demand to talk to a supervisor or ill go to comreg/solicitors/social media . At this point he goes off to see if he can find a supervisor. He comes back about 15 mins later to tell me one isn't available but that he has flagged my request and they are looking into the matter and one will be onto me when they know more. I told them that's not good enough, that I wanted to know when to expect that call , he told me tomorrow after 3 . So tomorrows D Day
After 15 minutes on hold, he fobed you off? Nice!

    As said, goto ComReg.

FWIW, this happened to a woman in my last job. Someone ported her number to their phone due to a typo on someones end, be it the store or the customer.

It was a business account. She kicked up a stink and got an iPhone 6 which was pretty new out at the time. Not sure you'll get the same kind of love as a prepay customer though....

The problem was resolved by our account manager

I think OP you had mentioned earlier in the thread you had contacted Three via social media? Did you make contact with them here on Boards.ie? I usually find them quite helpful (the girls more so than the guys) - far more so than via phonecall and at least you have written account of proceedings.

So to update . That phone call never came today needless to say . Was on a livechat with a 3 rep for about half an hour trying to escalate things and despite innumerable threats to take things to ComReg , Joe Duffy , Social Media he just kept telling me to please be patient and that they will get back to me soon(as in days) . I just told them to enjoy their Comreg fine in the mean time.

So I've never written one of these before but this is what I'm thinking of sending to comreg . let me know what you think
On the 6th of August I woke to find myself cut off from my network . Initially I thought this was just a faulty Sim issue but found out subsequently that my number had been ported over to a complete stranger when multiple people told me on Sunday the 14th that when trying to get through to me, they got him. Discovering this I rang my own number and sure enough a complete and very confused stranger answered the phone. I explained my side and asked him how long he had his/my number,he said 2/3 weeks, said this was the number 3 gave him . So possibly for 3 weeks but definitely between the 6th to the 15th this stranger would have been privy to all my personal and work correspondence. This is gross negligence and a huge breach of personal privacy on 3's part .
I've been onto 3 every day since in an attempt to escalate matters , speak to someone in management and get a thorough apology but none has been forthcoming at this time.

When I do send it , should I expect to hear back from them for further corroboration or is a one and done whistleblowing ?

hi can you just clarify this please,on 14/08 you posted this
"I've actively used this number for the last 15 years but 4-5 days ago I lost all connection to the network and have had several people inform me since then that when they have called or texted me a complete stranger replied asking who they were. He has apparently had this/my number since he changed network about 3 weeks ago"
3 weeks prior to the 14/08 is 23/07,yet you mention you were disconnected on 6th so the guy had use of the number from 23rd but you were only disconnected on 06/08 and it wasnt until 14th you knew someone else had it but you didnt call 3 between 06th and 14th?

Im sorry im just confused by dates given between when you noticed, when 3 were notified and when the other guy had the number?

I'm just telling you what he(the guy who my number was ported to without my permission) told me . Was he exaggerating ? I have no idea , tho I do vaguely recall losing network connection briefly around that time (that seemed to be resolved by removing and reinserting the SIM ). It wasn't till the 6th that I completely lost my network connection and all texts/calls began going directly to him. As to why I didn't raise the issue with 3 until the 15th. I initially presumed it was just a SIM issue and had every intention of visiting a 3 store when I had the free time to get a new one , but like I'm sure a lot of you, I use whatsapp/viber so wasn't completely cut off so didn't get around to it till the weekend. It was Sunday evening (the 14th) when I was made a aware by a few friends that when they had tried to call me they were getting through to a complete stranger. By this stage there was nobody manning the phones on 3 Customer care so I waited till Monday to call them.

Get rid of the emotional language and stick to facts. Someone who doesn't really care will read it and get fed up hearing about what time you woke up and found out you weren't connected...

    Eg:

Found that my phone was not functioning properly on Xth August.
Was informed by contacts that someone else was responding to my phone number on X date.
Phoned my number immediately, stranger answered and stated that the number had been provided to him by 3.

For at least the intervening period, confidential and private information intended for me was being received by this third party.

I contacted 3 on x date and informed them of what had happened.
3 provided me with a new sim/ whatever they did..
    Et. Etc. FACTS ONLY

Then state what your current grievance is, if any, and details of how you've officially complained to three and any case numbers.

Also are you able to confirm any data was breached? have you got anything your work or friends can send you to show this was sent on x date which was when this person was active with your number?

Should also have done the same when chatting to them on the phone. They probably get 100 calls a day from people losing credit who threaten comreg and Joe Duffy. It doesn't get a good response.

Should get a reference number from them, ring comreg, explain the situation, as said, matter of factly. State why you have an issue (loss of business, breach of data (other person might see confidential info, etc.)) and ask them to look into it. They give you a comreg code, tell you to ring back with their advice and their code. Person here is a calm, reasonable voice, with a comreg code, and they react as they should, then stuff gets sorted.

OP have you made an official complaint and received a complaint reference from 3 ?

If not then this is the nest thing you should do ASAP.

Then you can contact ComReg and ask them to intervene on your behalf because you feel that 3 are not dealing with the issue as urgently as they should.

You should also report the breach to the data commissioner ASAP.
