He has some finishing kick. Seems to just lack a dash of tactical speed. I imagine if there was a 420m hurdles race he'd be a definite candidate for gold!

He can improve on this though - you could easily see him medal at the next world championships

Would have to be the target anyway. Injury permitting and probably a fair bit of pressure to deal with next time too.

Unreal that he is only 24. Seems to have been around years. Certainly a known name for several years.

I'd say the Turk slowed up and nearly got caught out

Yes, wrist bands and glasses and heavy socks. There is definitely a WR in Barr!

Maybe worth remembering that Annalise Murphy came fourth in London, and she got her medal this time.

Thomas is 24, he could have an amazing next four years.

    Roll on Tokyo.

I'd say the Turk was at the end of his rope, no-one slows up in the last 5 metres of an Olympic sprint final (.... well apart from that one guys)

    Wow! He is amazing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,636 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

Why is he so much quicker after the last hurdle? Is it that he no longer has to manage his stride and can just open up?

The Brownlees are clear of the field in the Triathlon, looks like they will get their 1-2 this time.

hy did george hamilton keep saying barr was in second coming off the last ben when he wasn't ? He is almost as bad as Hugh Cahill commentating on boxing, spending most of the commentary talking about the boxers past rather than telling us what's happening in the ring.

Yes, and at 24 he's nowhere near his peak yet. Looks like he's the best runner in Europe over the distance already.

    Jerry? Why so serious?

    Smile once.

What great representatives we've had in Tom Barr, Annalise Murphy and the o'Donovan brothers.

4th, 2nd and 2nd in the world with two chances in the modern pentathlons.

That's before even mentioning the rest who've gone well. Boxing aside it's been great for Team Ireland. Hickey getting his comeuppance only adds to that.

    What a run though!

Did anyone catch the thumbs up his sister gave? Just like The Inbetweeners 'friend' thumbs up.

Leona doing much better today, -4 after 12 to be -1 overall and tied 28th.
Stephanie going well, -3 after 6 to be +3 overall and tied 44th.
    Leaders currently at -7.

First and third in that race were aged 30 and 29 respectively.......the future is bright for Barr I'd say

The Turkish policy of buying in athletes from all over the place is ridiculous. The guy probably can't even speak a word of Turkish. It's virtually meaningless to be representing a country you've no connection to.

Gold and silver for the Brownlee brothers

I wonder did Mammy Brownlee say "Well done Alistair, but could you not have let Jonathan win this time? You have two Gold Medals, and he has none ..."?
