Didn't Much Dowling also wonder how they didn't give the 1St, 3Rd &4th to Katie Taylor!?!

Also, surely for drawn bouts as per the 3 judges marks then there should be a 4th judge who has to give a definitive decision. Either that type of system or else in tied affairs getting all the judges to watch the bout on video and remarking it in that basis writings be far fairer and far more transparent than the current system which is cack.

Katie actually did win rounds 1,3 and 4 on split decision. Problem was she lost round 2 unanimously. When it all added up it was a tie so the judge that couldn't split them over the 4 rounds had to pick one. The Finn would have been just as disappointed if she had lost i guess.

    Good round from Greg Broderick

Eh? Did he not have 5 faults? Hardly enough to go through to Round 3 unless the others have disasters.

Sorry - folks said he had just a time penalty.

Got the 4 faults at the water, very disappointing to see him pick up a time fault after that. Where as 12 might get lucky, hard to see 13 faults making the cut.
I guess we used up our luck 4 years ago with Cian, so unlucky not to have the full team their this year.

Meanwhile halfway through the diving semi final, Oliver Dingley is 13th, with the top 12 going through.

In with a chance of making tonights final.

The unfortunately named Stephan Feck is second last.

There are currently only 4 behind Greg. He needs 15 behind him. Of those left, only 3 are on 8 faults so he needs at least 10 to have disastrous rounds (9+). It's unlikely

Carruth is wrong to be on air using words like robbed. He's just wrong. Firstly because she wasn't robbed, and secondly because even if he really felt it he shouldn't be bringing the sport into disrepute. His words are damaging, and like Paddy Barnes yet again spouting on twitter (this time about bad officiating for Katie's fight) they are doing us no favours, and could possibly be harming our remaining boxer, Michael Conlon.

He wasn't the only one, here are the coaches thoughts on the marking and result from the Irish Times :

'Ireland coach Zaur Antia belived that Taylor had won the fight over the four rounds and wondered what else the former champion could have done.
“She won (the fight), she had good skills, sidesteps, clean punches, what else she can do now? Katie hit more, two times more than she got, what else she can do?”

“Nobody can convince me that this fight Katie lost; then I have no experience and I don’t know boxing.
“You see her corner there, they were not happy, they were not sure, they had no confidence. When they raised her hand did you see how they jumped.”

Most corners are only looking at their own boxers

Hugh Cahill on RTE seemed to be under the impression that only Katie Taylor was throwing punches, "lovely" lefts after "lovely" rights, for four rounds solid.

I read about Zaur, but I think he was a little more polite and diplomatic. Bolger was plain bang out of order. Carruth, if he was crying robbery was also bang out of order.

Guys in studios can say what they want.

They won't negatively impact the boxers

TV companies always try to talk up their athletes and ignore elephants in the room

I say Zaurs interview- it was like a local coach after his son lost

Have to say thats very disappointing. Broderick would have been expected to at least reach the final 20. Brodericks strenght was meant to be jumping clears in nation cup type events.

I didn't get to hear it. So, of course, body language was important. But from reading it seemed he was much better at conveying his opinion than Bolger, who was damaging and scathing in his remarks. No issue with anyone arguing for the other boxer in a close fight, but this sour grapes OTT aggressive protesting is not what I want to see for the sport.

Bolger was completely OTT and what he said was damaging IMHO

Zaur's "interview" was close to an unintelligible rant imo. I heard it and understood about 40 per cent of it. He didn't just say Katie Taylor was robbed, he said Joe Ward, Donnelly and Paddy Barnes were robbed as well. They were all robbed! It was just a rant, sorry stuff and embarrassing.

I'll take your word then. I was only reading text.

Carruth now on about fairness in judging

Yes same here. I have a lot of time for Zaur, he's obvious a brilliant technical coach, but he's in a position out there he shouldn't be in. It sounded to me like there was a lot of stress showing. I wouldn't hammer him for it, I'd lay the blame for what's happened elsewhere.

I felt sorry for him. Doing an interview (not in his first language) just after such a disappointment... he was obviously going to be emotional.

Sometimes I think TV companies should let athletes - and coaches - have a few minutes post race/fight to compose themselves and gather their thoughts.

The Ciara McGeean (RTE) and Jess Ennis (BBC) interviews the other day being other examples. Let them process the result first before sticking a microphone in their face.

Dingley looking OK in the diving. He'll definitely be top 12 with one dive to go.

it'll be very tight though. 4 lads going for the last 2 spots

    Good dive there from Dingly

I saw it, he mainly talked about Taylor, I found it totally intelligible actually, he conveyed that he was unhappy with the voting on Katie's bout. You can read his actual quotes in the Irish Times if you didn't understand the accent.

He only mentioned Ward in passing and that was after the interviewer badgered him into making general comments about other Irish fighters. He was quite clear that he didn't think the Taylor result was fair or justified. Simple.

Helped by this (from RTE website):
Diving: You've got to feel for Ilia Zakharov, the defending Olympic champion. He scored 0.00 in the last round. Yep, a big, fat zero. He's belly-flopped into the pool like a drunkard returning from a heavy night out in Magaluf.

Even the best get it wrong sometimes

They all agree on that heavyweight fight last night - as I said earlier, an unbelievable farce of a decision.

Bad for Laugher good for Dingly!

I hope that if Dingley gets to the final that it'll increase some interest in diving here in Ireland.
