I run a small business that is starting to seek work in the UK. We build and install units on clients sites. Components are purchased in UK and Ire, assembled in Ire and installed in UK.

We are currently VAT registered in Ire, the components purchases will have a VAT element and the sales value will have a VAT element. DO we need to register for UK VAT, should we register for UK VAT even if we don't need to. Do we need to set up a UK based company.
    Thanks.

As it's likely that you will exceed the VAT threshold in the UK, you'd be obliged to register there.

However, rather than rely on suspect advice here, you'd be far better off discussing the matter with an accountant...
