Edit: finally connected after an hour but there's no GPS signal here. Ah, god love the countryside.

No GPS signal? It comes from satellites in space, if you can see the sky you should have GPS?

I don't get it either but hey. It's not like there will be any Pokemon here anyway and the server is gone unreachable again. It feels like the 80s again and moving the rabbit ears while waiting for the wind to die down so you could catch a grainy image of S4C.

Make sure that the system clock on your phone is exactly right or the gps won't sync with the pokemon servers.

I had a problem where I could get gps to work with google maps, but not pokemon go, until I realised that the system time on my phone was slightly off. I forced it to accept the network time again and it worked ok

For a while at least. It's a very very glitchy game. anything less than a good 4g signal and the game doesn't work properly at all. I cycled 5 miles at a leisurely pace today and it only recorded a few hundred metres. Really irritating

I was at Mountshannon on Lough Derg in Clare last week and I thought there would be loads of interesting pokemon but nothing worked because they don't have decent mobile internet. It's the same in any scenic location I've been to.

Does that incense crap actually do anything. Iv used it 3 times now and literally not 1 pokemon appeared. Once sat in my house. Once walking around phoenix park and the third time I even set one off left the phone on my lap as I was driving just to see if anything happened and zilch. Not a single one popped up (for the record I don't play while driving. Just said I'd try that to see if they were any use at all)

I used to have a problem with GPS as well (even before Pokémon Go) where my Samsung Galaxy S5 couldn't locate them at all. Searched online for a solution which told me to :

    A) download an app called GPS Status & Toolbox,
    B) go into the app
    C) touch the icon at the top left of the screen on the yellow(ish) status bar (if the bar isn't there then just tap anywhere on the screen and it'll come up), D) tap Manage A-GPS State,
    E) tap Reset.

This could be a phone specific solution though.

In fairness it's very hard to cycle slower than 10k/h, which I've heard is the threshold for recording walking.

Not ideal but it's consistent :)

anyone know what the multiplier for magikarps are? are they also based on your level for higher cp evolutions?
Average muliplier seems to be 11 for magikarp.
I found a chart for them as a google doc from tgesliphroad reddit.

Took a spin up there today. Caught a clefairy and a polywhirl which I didn't have. Saw the shadows of a clefable and a charizard just couldn't find them. I think they we re on the golf course but I had the dogs with me so couldn't go hunting. Good tip worth the trip.

    And a gengar

Yeah it seems the really rare type all wind up in the golf course which is brutal. I had to go all James Bond to catch Hitmonchan

I stopped using it, all it ever attracted was Ratatta and Pidgeys. Waste of poke coins.

Alright morning in Waterford, caught a Machop, Polywhirl, a few more Nidoran so finally enough candies to evolve up to really good CP Nidoking. Also got a Sandshrew from a 5km egg, so that's enough to evolve to Sandslash. Another Charmander from a 2km egg and a 950 CP Tangela from a 5km egg. Two more 10km eggs from Poke Stops. Still waiting on that Lapras or Aerodactyl, anything but more Eevee's!

I'm out of poke balls. Do you get sone every day or do I have to buy them?
Or can I trade the ones I've caught for more balls.
    I'm only a newbie on level 4.
My son is mad to get to level 5 asap :)
    Thanks for any help

You have to go to pokestops to get more balls. They are the blue icons on the map. Get close, touch the blue icon and then spin the picture that appears.

You can buy them in the shop or you get them from Pokestops. Best bet is to find somewhere with a few pokestops close by and hit them up a few times. (spin the icon when you click it). They refresh every 5 mins or so.

Thanks for that re pokestops! Was at loads this morning and didn't realise that.
More adventures so this evening .

I'd prefer not to be spending real money on this.

Went up 7 levels in the last week

So basically myself and my boyfriend went on a week long trip around Ireland, collecting Pokemon. We started in Comic Con in Dublin, which we went to on the Saturday. We spent Sunday in the Botanical Gardens, after I set a lucky egg. We were going to go into the city but we really didn't need to.
On Monday we headed off to Waterford, with a quick detour through the Wicklow Mountains where I managed to damage my cooling system in the car after hitting what I think was a pothole. Got it cooled down enough to continue, as long as we stopped every half hour. Waterford was grand, a lot of Pidgeys but got a Dewgong and a Seadra, and evolved Eevee into Flareon. A really nice man in the carpark had a look at the car for me.
After a stay in Portlaw forest, we headed back into the city to say bye to a friend (and catch a few more Pokemon) before heading towards Cork. Never really made it to Cork. Stopped in Youghal to light up a barbeque. The car really started overheating when stopped at a busy roundabout, so we just found our next campsite in Fairyland Forest.
Bypassed Cork city and went to Limerick. There we stayed in a hallway in UL (where we were both students), surrounded by 3 Pokestops. We sat and chatted and set up lures for a few hours. Then we went to find our campsite but couldn't find it. Alas, it got dark so we had to sleep in the car.
Went to Clare Glens the next morning. Absolutely stunning place (except the litter) but no Pokemon so after an hour or two, we headed off to Galway. So many Drowzees... but did get a Dratini and a Haunter, which I didn't have. Stayed with my boyfriend's sister that night, and we all headed back to my boyfriend's house yesterday, after breakfast and another quick walk around the city. I got home myself last night.

So yeah, we used cafe's and friend's houses as charging points. We had three battery packs. We did an awful lot of walking so got a good few eggs hatched. I went up 7 levels, my boyfriend went up 3 but he started at a higher level. I have 21 new Pokemon added to my Pokedex. If it weren't for the constant anxiety about completely destroying my car, it would have been a very enjoyable trip.

I'm still using fastpokemap.com , can be hit and miss sometimes but was spot on earlier for a manchop for me. Do you have to keep scanning different area's with that one or has it a huge radius.

You can set it for a huge radius, but that's why it's hit and miss. To pick up as many pokemons as possible, you use multiple accounts and set each account to scan a smaller radius.

Yeah I'm level 23 and never saw a wild Pikachu although there was one on my sightings list last week but I wasn't able to search for him. I have hatched 3 for 2km eggs though.

Liffey Street at the lights for the ha'penny bridge is great in the late evening for magicarp and I got a lapras. There's 3 stops all beside each other and almost always lures on them.

For some reason I was convinced that Eevee evolutions, e.g Vaporeon, Flareon etc., weren't available in the wild; I don't know why I thought that, I just did.

Anyway, so I started up the game earlier and who should I happen to see 3rd on my Sightings list? Vaporeon! Even though I already have one, I've yet to see one in the wild so I had to catch it. Just as I put on my runners to head out the door, my character runs down my street in the game and I thought "ah great, bloody GPS acting up again!" until.... Vaporeon appears! Without needing to waste time traipsing around my estate, I was able to catch him/her (most likely a him given it's 87.5%/12.5% towards male) with just 2 Ultra balls :D
