Right, so, like everything else, any deviation from total equity everywhere can be explained by lack of privilege?

You do realise that white people aren't actually on top in the United States anymore?
    Look it up:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_groups_in_the_United_States_by_household_income

By household income, Indian-Americans (i.e. people of ancestry of the country of India, not Native American "Indians"). Followed by Taiwanese and Philippine Americans. Whitey does not make an appearance until #4, Australian Americans. On average, Asian-American households make about $17,000 more per year than White American households.

Despite this, the USA swimming team is whiter than a trailer park after a snowstorm.

    https://www.google.ie/?gws_rd=cr&ei=-YenV9GhD8yWgAbM9IzgCA#q=usa+swimming+team+olympics+2016

If representation and succecss in sports is linked with economic "privilege" then how come Asians, especially Indians, aren't dominating everything in the USA?

In case it hasn't occurred to you, swimming is generally not open to 'average income' people. The whites on the US team are not from your average trailer park.

Seriously?? I'm sick to death of everything lately on news is about black people. So fûcking what!! Each person has their own skills or whatever no matter the colour. Why can't people just shut up and grow up. You only live once. Why waste half of it on worrying or wondering about another race.

This may have been true 30 years ago but not any more. I'm certain they've had Hispanic swimmers recently and some Asian-Americans. At these games there is a black girl and a black guy and an Asian guy. Obviously the ethnic make up is still closer to the NHL than the NBA but it does seem to be changing in the last few years.

We don't like getting our hair wet:D

But in all seriousness, we have longer limbs and short as **** torsos that make us terrible at swimming. They did a study and found that Michael Phelps has the torso of a 6'8 guy even though he's only 6'3, which gives him a competitive advantage. Same reason why most powerlifters aren't black - our long limbs make us suck at benching and squatting big loads so the only Big 3 lift we have an advantage in is the deadlift.

Also, we really ****ing hate getting our hair wet!

On a related issue, Why are the Irish so bad at swimming?

At least there's a physical reason why black people don't tend to be good swimmers. But what's our excuse?

    Irish people 6 million
Black people a lot more than 6 million

I wouldn't have said we're bad at swimming. Compared to the UK, USA, France, China etc. of course we fare poorly, but I've no idea who would think we'd be at that level anyway.

Looking at similar sized countries like Norway, Denmark, Finland, Croatia etc. and we're all equally as bad really. Denmark have 12 olympic swimming medals, but only 2 of them are from this side of 1950. Similar story with Finland, they've 4 swimming medals, and 2 of those are from 1920. Croatia have far fewer olympics under their belt, but have a single silver to show for it. In 116 years of competing, Norway have a silver and a bronze from 2008.

It's pretty clear that countries our size don't regularly medal in swimming, and it takes a once in a generation talent to win an olympic medal (or 4) before another long period without success.

In the republic there are at least three Olympic-standard 50m swimming pools: National Aquatic Centre in Dublin; UCD; UL. There are also private 50-metre pools such as West Wood in Dublin. In the North there is at least one Olympic standard pool in Bangor, while Magherafelt has a 50 metre pool. There could be more that I'm unaware of.

    Waiting to thaw out.

Different populations have different traits at the extremes. This doesn't mean that every say American of African descent is going to be a better sprinter than every say American of Germanic descent, but it's likely that more will be.

There's also a world of populations within the label "Black". African American is not the same population as an Ethiopian or San or Maasai or… Very different genetics going on, never mind the pretty extreme selection pressures on the population that came with the slave trade(not just the European one). Just surviving the hellish journey from the Old to the New World meant you were either extremely "lucky"(I use that word for the real want of a better one) or extremely fit and healthy to start with.

Motorsports too, with the exception of Lewis Hamilton who's half white, especially motorcycle racing,
Maybe it's just not their thing,

Have you ever tried to post a fast lap in a massive Cadillac convertible with leopard skin seat covers??

    Not easy.

:D Motorsports are the preserve of the middle classes. It's a very expensive sport to get involved in. There's a cultural aspect to it too, where motorsport has been quite limited in the driver catchment area. Basically Europe, Japan, with a smattering of New world types, almost to a man of European origin.

You can see the cultural thing at work in a few sports. Cycling is one. For most of its history cycle racing has been dominated by Italians, French, Spanish, with some Belgians and others in he mix. More southerly European in flavour. Precious few Finns or Swedes.

For some reason it always amazes me to see a black person step out of a swimming pool. Obviously the genetic make up of their skin and hair is different than us pasty white Irish people and upon observation it's almost aqua-phobic in nature. The water just beads off them while I'm left standing there dripping all over.

I call bull**** on the facilities.

Some of my African dictator pals have magnificent pools in their houses and not one of them has beaten me yet in a one-lap sprint.

Hydrodynamics is very important in swimming.
You need to cut through the water.

The Afro is just not conducive.
