getting quoted 3000 for first time driver !

hi ,I have my provisonal license 8 years , never insured just didn't bother i hae been insured for a week or two under my mothers car while she went on holidays , I am trying to get insured on a 1 litre polo or micra and been getting quotes of 3000 from boxymo ? any recommendations
