It's only 25fps which is cack. I'd get a nextbase or one of those xiami's much better specs and wifi connectivity for easy access to your files.

Would you not be better off getting it on Amazon for €155 then Parcel Motel to deliver? BlackVue DR3500-FHD (16GB)

I'm not buying one, I already have Mio mivue 538. I was just posting coz it looked like a good deal depends on which one comes with the wifi and the gps because supposedly they are not standard on these cameras.

Is it possible to get a wire-free dashcam (one that has an internal battery and has no connection with the cars electrical system). I have a nextbase 202 but I hate the look of the wires on the floor of the passenger footwell – I’m a bit ocd about internal neatness/orderliness in the car. I like the 202 as it is small and can be easily removed from the suction cup holder.

For me then, a nextbase 202 or similar but I would assume it would be larger because it has an internal battery. I could live with that.

(I did try searching this forum for an answer using such search terms as “wire free”, “cordless”, “battery operated” but nothing jumped out at me).

I have that dashcam and had Halford's do it. Can't see any wiring, in fact it is so much out of sight out of mind, my biggest problem is forgetting it's there when I'm singing or worse talking to myself. :o

Just get it hardwired into your car. No wires to be seen anywhere. Places like Halfords will do it for you but it's easy enough to do yourself. Half an hours work.

Any opinions on this from Lidl (11th July)

Just noticed the UK Lidl charge £29.99 for that or €36. I'd be feeling a bit pee'd off if I'd paid €60 here for it.

Not much of an offer since they're €20 at EuroGiant all the time. It's OK but wouldn't recommend.

    Here's my footage:

That dashcam never cost €50 like the ad suggests. You can buy them on Chinese sites for around 15/20. I'd avoid it tbh, there's already been people on boards who have been crashed into and caught out because their crappy dashcam wasn't able to pick up the reg plate.

Hmnn I've been thinking about one of these for a while so would appreciate some feedback.

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/151071891306?clk_rvr_id=1068559907181&rmvSB=true

The Mobius is very well reviewed and inexpensive. The cons however are that it has no screen and I wouldn't be able to hardwire it into the cars electrical system.

    http://www.halfords.ie/technology/dash-cams/dash-cams/transcend-drivepro-200-dash-cam

The Transcend is a large unit so I'd probably have to unclip it when leaving the car. Would Halfords wire it into the car for me or is there a charge for that?

Any recommendations for a small unit that I could leave plugged in and which a retailer or someone else could install?

    Many thanks.

I ordered one of these last week and unfortuantely has just been sent to customs in Portlaoise. Will post a few vids when I can get my hands on it.

PS: Anyone know how/where to contact them to get the process started? The tracking service says "item sent to customs" - from the mail centre in Dublin 12, yesterday. So should be received in customs today.

Just a quick clip showing some footage of my vantrue n1. If it gets techmoan's seal of approval that's good enough for me :).

The video quality has suffered due to software compression.

    Specs:
Vantrue N1 has very good daytime videos and night videos are decent as well.

    Audio is clear without distortion.

Parking monitor works good with power supply.
Mount has charging port so it can be taken out of the vehicle without messing with cable.

Car charger has additional USB port so it allows another gadget to plug in.

It hangs from the mount so it's not very didscrete but it's pretty small in size and mostly black color so that helps.

Loop times are 1, 2 or 5 minutes so the standard 3 minute is not an option.
    Main Features:
1080P HD (+HDR), 1.5" LCD Car Dashboard Camera Recorder with one press Parking Monitor, 170° Wide Angle, G-Sensor & Dual Car Charger.
    18 months warranty.

I've had the mobius 2 years and I'm very happy with it.

    Daytime is good

    Nighttime is adequate

Hardwiring it to the car was straightforward but not trivial
I got a "DC to DC Converter 12V 24V 8-24V Step down to 5V mini USB Power Supply 1.5A MAX" for €3 and an "Add A Circuit Fuse Tap Piggy-Back Standard Blade Fuse Holder ATO ATC 12v 24V" from ebay.

If you supply the parts I doubt if a mechanic would charge more than €20 for the 15 mins work

I'm considering moving the Mini 0806 to the rear and getting maybe a newer Mini series camera for the front. I could get a cheap dashcam for the rear but I like the small size of the Mini series cams. Not too sure :\

Can someone recommend a simple to install, simple to use Dashcam. Dont mind the price once it a decent one and will last a few years. Want something that doesn't look ugly and doesn't have a million cables. Being installed in a 162 Landcruiser.

Ive searched amazon/ebay but haven't a clue when it starts to get tekkie with GB and 25frames and stuff.

    TIA

Picked up a nextbase 312GW earlier in Halfords. It's currently reduced to €108. Have it charging up (clock battery) ready for use tomorrow.

Picked up the nextbase because you can get a secondary mount for it for the other car, which I'll get next month or so.

Have a look through these: Halford’s Dashcams

I have a Nextbase 202 and paid €35 to have it installed/hard wired. Recommend the service for a tidy fit with no cables hanging out and on and off with ignition.

Interesting option. Looks like the newer Mini series cameras aren't even as good as the Mini 0806 or older apparently.

Did that €35 include the hardwire kit?
