It is a savage walk - have a good sleep and don't hit the beer tonight :)

While I appreciate the help, that’s quttin’ talk…

Honestly Norfolk. I'd be well experienced.

That place with a hangover would be legend stuff. Wouldn't be "just golf".

Fantastic course. Hard. Don't know conditions at present.

It is a fair old walk but no more than playing 2 or 3 extra holes. Anyone under 65 should be grand ;)

Ah yeah, I appreciate the heads up. I do have a 30th birthday to head to tonight though and the lad involved is on about a 12-pubs style event, starting at 6pm. Seeing as I'm not driving tomorrow, I reckon I'll give it a shot.

I'll post from under a bush on about the 8th at some stage tomorrow, may set up base camp there and try make the rest of the 18 on Sunday!

Your hangover will be gone by the 8th ;)

The walk from 9 to 10 could be interesting since you pass the pub on the way :D

I don't think it will get cold enough tonight for it to be frosty there, but there's some talk of thundershowers in the afternoon.

I walked it back in August and it was a bit tiring alright. One tip I have is when you're playing the 4th, leave your bags/trolleys at the turnoff for the 5th on the way down to the 4th green (it's a right turn about halfway down). Believe me, it's one hell of a drag coming back up the hill if you don't do this.

    Enjoy.

Back nine is hard work on the legs, hope you have a good battery...
Some great holes though, Will be freezing on the Back 9 as it's all in shade this time of year.

Playing here in a society tomorrow, weather is looking OK so looking forward to it. Never played here before. Anyone been around recently? What’s it looking like these days?

    No buggies left…

How did it go for you? Legs still sore? ;)

Bump to ask if anyone knows what condition the course is in at the moment, greens etc.

I met the course superintendent a week back and he said it was in great shape. Can't vouch for the current condition, but I was up there half a dozen times last year and the place was looking really well.

Try some of these photos: taken mostly in April and Oct/Nov 2014

Thanks Kev for the quick reply, saw the photos last year, played it a good few times, it's one of my favourite places.

Got an opportunity last year to be on a judging panel for the best courses in Ireland (back spin magazine). It was separated into links and parkland. I gave Macreddin my number 1 for parklands.

I must have been the only one that did because it wasn't near the top when results came out. But for the criteria they laid down it ticked all the boxes for me. If I was told I was going to die in the morning I'd drive down there and play Macreddin in the dark first.

Anyone know if they've got the practice area complete? Think it's 18 months since I've played there and they were just beginning some major work.

It's well up there on my list of parklands.

Must treat the missus to a weekend in Brook Lodge soon ;)

    Brilliant. I'd bring the torch.

Lads excuse my ignorance but i was at a wedding last year in the Brook lodge hotel and spa. Is macreddin the course across the road? I didn't flippin realise it was as good as what lads here are saying. The Green fees seem very cheap for a course that comes highly recommended by ye. I would love to stay a few nights that side of the country (I'm from Clare) for a golf trip. Would macreddin, druids Glen and woodenbridge be the ones to go for? ?.

Yes, that's the one. Fine course but a serious hike - I'm usually an advocate of walking but Macreddin is the exception....

Lots of nice courses in the area. The ones you mention plus the European, Arklow, Coolatin, Bunclody..... Did I leave any out?

Wicklow GC for some nice sea views. Course not to everyone's taste but I like it.

So do I, if I can remember where I'm supposed to be aiming.

I'd say that was a pretty decent selection alright. Coollattin, Bunclody, Carlow would be others I'd highly recommend. Or Arklow which is handy and throws in some links.
    Spoilt for choice.

Macreddin is let down by the rough around the edges look. My local P&P has a better clubhouse. That shouldn't matter and doesn't for me coz I never use a clubhouse anyway but I suppose it is a downer for first impressions. People talk a lot about how hilly it is too. There are a few lung bursters alrite like the hike back up from the 4th green. (Mind you, the hike off the 18th green in Concra Wood is probably as bad and a few others I can think of).

The course itself is just fantastic. The par-3 4th is similar to the 10th in Hermitage, straight down! Maybe a bit short overall but I'm sure they can lengthen it out and let up the rough if needs be. Brilliant value as well.

Last thought - wonder how much those big chalet monstrosities are going for along the 11th tee. Are they even for sale? Be awful if no-one ever lived in them. Some views.

Finally played Macreddin today after reading so much about it. Absolutely loved it but there's no way I'd even consider playing it without a buggy.

A long straight driver could do very well there. Greens are in superb order and the 4th is the single best hole I've played. The 12th is another spectacular hole.

Itching to get back now that I've seen what the place looks like. Only real annoyance was that they only open at 9AM, no good for early risers.

Played mccreddin last Friday week I'm 30 on the button played a four ball ages 29-33 we are all 12-15 handicap, God its a tough walk and I still play 90mins of soccer at centre mid every week, going again I would probably get a buggy but did enjoy the challenge of walking it and taking it all in, the course is in fantastic condition I have to say I loved it. Club house is a big let down but who really cares about that, the views, scenery layout are exceptional!!!! The greens are just as true and fast a truly spectacular course, would highly recommend it, fantastic day out walking it did take us 5 hours but we stopped for 20mins after 9 to catch our breath again!!!! Everyone should play there at least once a year!!!

    Played recently.

Great course but 50 quid for a round ???
    Plus 10 for a buggy.

These guys must think the celtic tiger is roaring back.
Much better value elsewhere, which is a shame as the course is nice.

A buggy should be included in the price of the green fee as walking isn't a realistic option

There are a lot of special rates though. 4 ball for €140 (€35 each), Twilight (after 3pm on Saturday) €35 (€30 on Sunday) and the Thursday open comp is €20.
