    To your trenches, AH's!

    https://www.rt.com/news/353005-machete-wielding-man-attack/

No assumptions here. He's confirmed as a " Syrian Refugee ".

So, AH's: Would you welcome these people into Your parish? (Not suggesting we have any choice, of course).

Would I welcome a machete wielding madman into my parish? No, probably not.

Do you have to sound so disgustingly gleeful about someone being killed in a horrible manner?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭Stigura

    You think I'm typing " Gleefully "?

Okay. I really can't account for how your mind works.

That first line sounds fairly gleeful to me honest.

Sorry for the lady he savagely murdered. Beyond comprehension now at this stage what this is all about.

Apparently the atrocity happened at a kebab stand. Could be more to this.

Thread title - bold words, emphasising that it's another attack to attract attention (regardless of the last one not being Islamist, but whatever).

First line - provoking, you know it's going to make for a row-ish thread and frankly, you seem rather happy about being the one to start it.

    Second line - ah, the old emphasis on immigration to lead into;

Last line - Throwing it open for the row to begin, along with an insinuation about all migrants/Muslims (whichever you're going for with "these people") being homicidal machete murderers + starter for the lefty liberal Rawr EU debate with the implication of "not that you have any choice about "these people" in your parish.

Not a thought for the person who's dead, or the person injured, or people traumatised in the attack, just straight off into "these people".

I wonder why I'd possibly think you were muckstirring. Gleefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭Stigura

No. That first line merely indicates my awareness that any thread of this type will swiftly become trench warfare between the people who hate hearing of this sort of thing. And those who will rather wish to in some ~ any ~ way present arguments for why it's not so bad as some might wish to suggest.

    My parish?

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Oh, and to answer your question, I would be distinctly dubious about having a homicidal machete maniac as a next door neighbour, but thankfully, that is not yet Irish/European policy yet.

I'm pretty grand with a Muslim neighbour though. You?

I'd certainly welcome refugees ahead of a sh*t-stirring lowlife.

You'll never avoid trench warfare if you've dug yours to fire the first shot. But I don't believe you're trying to avoid it anyway.

I can't believe someone got a Fr Ted reference into this thread. I've never laughed so much in my life. But seriously when will the quotes stop? When anyone born before 1990 or so dies?

Okay, Samaris. You are, obviously, a worthy Moderator. Your views carry no obvious bias. You have displayed the judgement of Solomon. You've slyly, publicly called me a schit stirrer. Lovely.

Your call. If we're to be So censored here? Fine. Do as your rather interesting trains of thought see fit.

Either way, I sure as hell won't be commenting on the next atrocity. Or the next one. Or .....

Seems pretty clear that providing heads up on certain world events doesn't go down well here.

As has already been mentioned, it's the language and tone of your post that is unappealing. You're looking for a certain reaction from posters, and no doubt you'll get it before long. Absolutely no empathy shown for the victims of this attack, very distasteful.

To be honest, Stigura, while I absolutely stand by what I said because I reckon it's true, I reported myself on it so another mod can go look at the thread as I'm now invested in it.

And there is -no- issue with providing heads up on world events. I would assume you'd know that quite well from ..well..looking at AH. What I objected to, as a poster, not a mod, was your rather nasty way of putting it. It seemed horribly inappropriate to what's a bloody tragedy for the family of that woman. It looked like point-scoring to provoke a row.

    That's all.

Not hitting the trenches just yet.

And yes I'd welcome Syrian refugee's to my parish. We can't just leave them to be slaughtered in a war zone. But I don't know how best to control who and what gets in.

Despite the recent attacks I'm still pro 'take them in.

Samaris pretty much set the tone of this thread from early on so I'll finish this before the thread is locked.

Continue to take them in ~ I'm pro.

To the friends and family of those murdered in recent attacks, I guess no one words can comfort you. God bless you all.

O would you ever just shut up. Your anger towards the op is so annoying.

Read the thread about the shooting in munich. And give out/moan to everyone who gave out about immigration.

Depressing. I've never seen anything like what has been happening and I don't think people are able to comprehend it. Brushing it under the carpet is not helping .

He asked an honest question that you took offence to. Reality is Ireland are bringing these Syrian refugees into parishes around Ireland. Question is relevant to todays society given that we the people have no say in the matter but have to deal with this type of cultural baggage for generations to come.

    Bad few days for Germany.

Can't really let the actions of 1/2 maniacs dictate policy towards thousands of innocent people.

More than a few days and I think you can reassess the situation when there is a wave of terrorism and a jihadist insurgency going on .

But the fear factor of more of the same happening must be terrifying for those living there just the same.

The ethnicity/religion/whatever of the perpetrators is worrying too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,544 ✭✭✭Samaris

Yep, and I apologise for the needless sarcasm, but not for my opinion.

I realise that doesn't come across as hugely sincere, but I have to make the distinction. I still don't agree with the OPs approach to it.

    Yes ya can.
Many laws and policies are brought in because of a few fools/maniacs/murders.

I often wonder why we hear so much about Christian's being persecuted and ran out of areas in those countries but yet we haven't heard much about Christian refugees landing in Europe.

It's seems it's another religion that's responsible for these atrocious act's.

The thing is you pretty much can set policy on the actions of a tiny minority ~ Micheal Doyle (Dunblane massacre) pretty much had all pistols and revolvers made illegal in the UK.

That's only one example but it shows that policy can and will be set on the actions of a minority.

In regards to terror, you don't need big attacks to spread fear ~ in fact smaller attacks can be as terrifying. Think 'War of the Flea' where a tiny flea on a big dogs body will drive the dog nuts, and the dog can't find the damned flea to kill it.

Same for terror groups, small and small attacks can be very, very successful in spreading terror.

The other thing about these lone wolf attackers ~ we don't know if and to what extent these people are suffering PTSD from their experiences in Syria, A'Stan, Libya etc. They may not come here looking to cause terror, they may not even know they're suffering combat stress ~ then they attack.

The problem is massive, it won't be cured by completely closing borders and locking the poor sods in a war zone, but thats little comfort to those poor people in Germany, France, Belgium etc
