Have to say that looks great some amazing shots in there , is this supposed to be in the same universe as the last Godzilla movie ?

Its a lead up to Kong vs Godzilla, so yes.

Looks like it is set in the 70s with the weapons and choppers.

It's like Christmas for Trailers today with all the epic stuff coming out of SDCC... This looks class - had no idea of who was in the cast until I started watching that trailer and I was pleasantly surprised.

Kinda strikes me as Predator but with a giant gorilla substituting for the alien.

Funnily enough, I got the same vibe from Tom Hiddleston as I did from Adrien Brody in Predators....

Anyway this looks terribly daft, as does the premise of having Kong fight Godzilla (I know they did in the 60s for Toho), but I'll lap it up all the same. :o

As a fan of King Kong (original concept) I can't wait for this! The Peter Jackson film wasn't great so hope this makes up for it.

    Really enjoyed Godzilla (2014) too.

Definitely looks like its set in the 70s, which makes me wonder what year Kong vs Godzilla is going to be set in. If its modern, will it end up having a whole new cast, not really using anyone from this Kong film?

Jesus Christ does everything have to be either an X vs Y movie or a collection movie like Avengers these days? It's getting boring at this point. Batman v Superman was a bit pile of shít and the last Godzilla movie wasn't all that memorable either.

It hasn't got Jack Black, I hear Oscar buzz.

It hasn't got Kyle Chandler, buzzkill.

Some cool shots in that, love the one with the choppers heading towards the silhouette of Kong while the sound effect noise cranks up.

    Can't wait 😀

Trailer looks awesome but then so did the Godzilla one

A film like 'King Kong' remains at its most viable in the period it was conceived and shot in. The 30's. Which is why there is only one 'King Kong'.

I was all ready to start rolling my eyes at this and giving out about hollywood trying to remake, yet again, something that has no right being remade.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by that trailer! It looks like something I want to see more of.

Of course, that pleasing feeling sort of dropped off when I heard that this is just a possible run up to a 'King Kong vs Godzilla'.

    Why.

Didn't hollywood get all that vs/meets crap out of their system in the 40's, when Universal wrecked all their classic monsters.

    Sigh.

Is that vibe a "they have no business as action heroes" kind of vibe?!

Looks interesting. I quite like the Vietnam era, Platoon/'Apocalypse Now' vibe off the setting. Kong looks massive, the monsters look great and the cast is perfect (even Reilly as the 'gone slightly mad' survivor of a previous expedition).

Well, I love big monster movies, so I love the look of this. There's no doubt the 70s setting is aping (badum tsch) the styling of Apocalypse Now, but that's no bad thing; if nothing else it keeps the action grounded & the protagonists without easy technology to aid them.

I wonder if this will end with a nod towards Godzilla, given the rumours there'll be a crossover film in the future.

I forgot that this was part of a new monster universe... given that this is set in the 70s (or so) and Godzilla was modern day, it will be quite interesting how they link them. Or are they rebooting Godzilla again?

Well going by the trailer, Kong seems to have lived for quite a while and IIRC, in Godzilla it was implied the titular monster lived for thousands of years, so it isn't inconceivable Kong will simply be ~40 years older.

I think some viral marketing has implied groups involved with the plot in Kong were the same scientific group in Godzilla. I guess we won't see any of the Skull Island characters in the Versus film, unless the studio pull a Fox & pretend human ageing doesn't happen :D

Well yeah, no issue regarding Kongs age. I mean more along the lines of... will Kong become public knowledge by the end of this? In Godzilla, the idea of huge monsters seems to be new territory... no mention of a "Kong" incident in it. Not that there has to be but it'll just be interesting to see how it ties together.
