As terror said its likely the GPU in that case. Hopefully its under warranty and you get sorted out.
Its worth checking the power connections and leads as well. Its unlikely but just double check them for tightness. Do this with the power off in case one of the leads going to the gpu is faulty and or damaged. (probably unlikely but best to be safe)

Tried it, and its same. :(

Looks like it kicked the bucket. Question is, what gpu do I buy now as this 680 is done for.

I am still rocking 2500k 8gb ram system. I play 1080p, but I am planing on getting 2560x1080 60hz monitor.

rx480 got stock issues and I dont know whats the story with third party coolers. 1060 is doing founders bull**** too?

To be fair the 2nd hand market has levelled off well in the last while for the most part. Another GTX680 or GTX770 to tide you over can be gotten for around €120 now. If you just want to get by, GTX660's are going for around €80. Even R9 290's are going for around €180 and GTX970's for around 200.

If there would be some 970 locally for around 200eu, I would just drive now and get it. 970 would do perfectly for me.

Unfortunately everything is in Dublin Area.

Does anyone know why 3DMark (and games now I think about it) lose focus on start-up? It's really frustrating as I can't run 3D mark. It seems to get to the physics test or on start up it'll lose focus.

No malware according to malware bytes and I've tried closing down background stuff.

I really can't make my mind up on what GPU to get.

    Radeon RX 480 Nitro+
    GeForce GTX 1060 GT
Radeon R9 390X "DD Core Edition"

The R9 has 2 DVI ports which saves me having to buy a display port cable but that's a minor issue.

    @ShadowHearth

It's interesting that your 600 series card died at the same time as mine. Planned obsolescence much?

Yours too? It's weird. I played yesterday and no issues what so ever. Then bang, this morning it's dead.
I tried wow on integrated gpu amd it's impossible. It had to die in patch day ffs.

I am in same boat as you. Looking at those 3 options, but lower end. I don't want stock cooler rx480 and they don't have much options of normal coolers.
    1060 tickles my fancy.
390 and 970 are new for 200pounds though. I wonder of o just get one of those amd call it. I need for 1080p and later wide 1080p. Looks like those two cards would do the job.

The 1060 looks like it might overclock like an absolute beast - need to see some more reviews.

    GTX 1060 is in stock.

An overclocked GTX 970 would provide more bang-per-buck, but it also has that lower VRAM.

    @K.O.Kiki

I don't need much VRAM I don't think. I run 1080p and try to push for unlocked variable framerate. 4GB is enough for me, it's double what I had with my dead 660ti. That said, is the 970 the card that nvidia lied about and it's actually 3.5GB?

It's 4GB but 512MB isn't fully addressed. It is used but in a different way to the other 3.5GB. It's not a huge issue tbh.

970 just looks like a great deal right now. 250eu for that performance. I think it would be enough for 2560x1080 too.

By the way, how's delivery times for overclockers? Who they use for deliveries too? Couriers? Or An Post like amazon?

Couriers DPD IIRC. Apart from them taking the wrong trailer for the first time in a decade when I ordered my 1080 the delivery process was bloody brilliant from OCUK. Customer service direct was top notch as well.

Okay, so I will be pulling the trigger today. Waiting for misses to text me her mothers adress for delivery. With me and misses work shedules I wont be able to be there.

So I have rulled out a few options and the ones that are in stock today:

XFX Rx 480 Stock cooler. 227£, but I will need to buy Display Port cable as cards has no dvi and my monitor has no hdmi.
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/xfx-radeon-rx-480-xxx-8192mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-with-backplate-gx-237-xf.html

G1 1060 non stock cooler, but I heard previous G1 cards were pretty solid. Most expensive option though. 290£
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1060-g1-gaming-6144mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-18f-gi.html

Asus 970 218£ Good cooler, good connections for now. Price is good.
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-geforce-gtx-970-directcu-ii-oc-strix-4096mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-20-pounds-cashback-gx-352-as.html

So lads, what would you recommend. I am tempted of rx 480, but stock cooler kind of puts me off. I used stock coolers before and never had issues. My cpu fan is loud anyway, so noise is not issue.
1060 looks nice, but its a lot more expensive too. Not much better, but better cooler.

    1060 all the way IMHO.

Aye, am with Mark. It's pretty insane performance from a 120W card. Overclocked it matches the 980 reference from what little I've seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

6GB's of Vram too which seems to be about the sweet spot at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭Redfox25

Here is another option, will rock 1080p for a long time to come, works out a bit more expensive though.

    http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/4096MB-Sapphire-Radeon-R9-FURY-Nitro-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Full-Retail-_1026217.html

    349euro and delivery extra.

It was on sale earlier with OCUK but that offer seems to be over now.

The 1060 lacks the GPU Boost 3 out of the box autoclocking tho which is a big mistake on Nvidia's part imho. The Asus Stryxx seems to have it but FE and Zotac Amp don't. Looks like its an on/off option in the bios so will be interesting to see what other AIB's do.

Just overclock the card manually. Not that big a deal imo.

I dont know now, 360eu looks like a crazy money for 1060. I can get 970 for 250eu with good cooler! Performance is not that massive between two.

I'd personally go second hand if I was going with the 970/390 but trying to get people to be sensible on adverts

The 970 is at its max driver wise for performance tho, the 1060/70/80 will only get better over time.

If your staying at 1080p though the 970 will last for a few years driving most games at max.

Reference RX 480s are in stock.

    €270 on Mindfactory

    £228 on OCUK

~5-10fps less than GTX 1060 but at €100 less.

Or an overclocked GTX 970. This KFA2 EXOC is same as in my machine, great at 1080p; think I average 55fps in Witcher 3 with Ultra settings.
    For €250 it's a steal (I paid damn near €330!)

I can't think of a time in the last 10 years where people were talking about new cards in terms in 200-300 and not 400-500.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

At €360 its starting to get to the point where a 1070 looks good value considering the performance difference between it and a 1060.

Considering that the 970 is probably a good option at €200-240 second hand. I wouldnt pay over that for one at this point. Good card and the segmented vram only really rears its ugly head in certain games or when people are pushing the fidelity to crazy levels with things like super sampling. That was my experience of it anyway and i was using one @ 1440p

The 970 has only 3.5GB of ram which newer games and mods will eat into bigtime.
